1．背景
祈りの詩篇と呼ばれるものです。また、ヘブル語原語で読むと、各節の冒頭がアルファベットで揃えられているアクロスティック（折句）な詩となっている。技巧的に作られているということは、それだけ重要な詩、詠われていることが愛され、記憶に留められる必要のあった詩というわけでしょう。
まずダビデは、自分は神を信頼している、と告白します。ダビデが置かれた状況は、どうやらダビデに敵対する者が現れ、その敵対者にことが有利に運ぶものであったようです（2節）。しかも敵対者の数は多く、敵に向けられる憎しみに心萎える状況でした（19節）。そこでダビデは、自らの心の内を告白するのです。「まことに、あなたを待ち望む者がだれも恥を見ず、ゆえもなく裏切る者が、恥を見ますように」（3節）。祈りは、その人自身の信仰を物語ります。ダビデは、全くの無力感の中で、ただ神を見上げています。天地万物を支配しておられる神の恵みとあわれみ無くして、この先何がありえようか、恵みとあわれみを注いでください、と必死です。生じてしまった「裏切り」や「憎悪」など、そう簡単に崩せるものではありません。ただ、天地万物をお造りになり、不可能を可能にする力を持った神だけが頼りです。そこから4節、常に私たちのために最善をなしてくださる、主に期待し「主よ、進む道を私に教えてください」と祈ることにもなるのです。
2．祈りにおいて待ち望む
いくつかダビデの祈りの特徴に目を留めてみましょう。ダビデは、「一日中待ち望んでいる」と言います（5節）。祈りは一朝一夕の業ではありません。それは、神のあわれみのしるしを粘り強く待ち望む業です。
そして、7節「私の若いころの罪や背きを思い起こさないでください」苦難に陥ると、人は、自らの様々な過去の過ちを思い浮かべるものでしょう。外からのみならず、内から心が崩されるような気持ちにさせられるのです。しかし、あれこれ思い出すことがあっても、自らの過去をさらに穿り返さないことです。こんな者だから私は苦しんで当然だ。あんなことをしたからこんな目にあっているのだ、そのように考えることは止めることです。神の恵み深さを小さく考えてはなりません。海岸沿いに出て、大海原をお造りになった神のスケールの大きさを思うことです。神を正しく認識する時に、人は祈りにおいて粘ることができます。
24篇では、世界の創造主であり、万物の支配者である神が讃えられました。この25篇では、その偉大なる神が、神を恐れる罪人にあわれみ深いお方であることが語られています（8節）。神は、単純にみじめな者、貧しい者に目を留められるのではなく「主を恐れる者」に目を留められるのです（12，14節）。つまり、謙虚に神以外に助けはない、と神に寄りすがる罪人にあわれみ深いということでしょう。そのような者に神は、キリストと経てた契約に誠実に対処し、正しい道を示してくださる、というわけです。
3．祈りにおいて教えられる
しばしば人は、神に一発逆転の勝利を求めやすいものです。祈れば、即肩の荷がおりて、何もせずとも祝福が転がり込んでくることを期待するものです。しかし、神はまず道を示されます。8節、「道」は単数形で冠詞が付けられています。つまりある特定の道が意味されています。9節「ご自分の道」10節「主の道」12節「選ぶべき道」のことでしょう。人はそれぞれ、主を恐れ、道を示される中で、自分自身の人生を積み重ねていくのです。出来るわけがないと思っていたことが、神の助けによって、その障壁を乗り越えていく祝福を味わっていくのです。神は確かに私の生活の中に幸せをもたらしてくださった、確かに、地を相続させてくださった（13節）と具体的な喜びを口で言い表していくのです。たとえ詩人のように、「私はひとり、苦しんでいます。」（16節）と思う時があっても、またすっかり打ちひしがれて、これ以上悩みを抱えきれない、と思う時であっても、神の時を粘り強く待ち望み、神が示される道を進むことです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Psalm 25: Embracing God’s Plan and Time
1. background
This is what is called a prayer psalm. When read in the original Hebrew, it is also an acrostic (broken verse) psalm with the beginning of each verse aligned alphabetically. The fact that it is technically crafted probably means that it is such an important psalm, a psalm that needed to be loved and remembered for what it is recited.
First, David confesses that he trusts in God. David’s situation seems to be that an adversary has come against him, and things are going in his adversary’s favor (v. 2). Moreover, his adversaries were numerous, and the hatred directed toward them was making his heart fade (v. 19). Then David confesses what is in his heart. Indeed, let no one who waits for you see shame, but let the one who betrays you without cause see shame” (v. 3). Prayer speaks volumes about a person’s own faith. David, in his utter helplessness, simply looks up to God. He desperately asks God to pour out His grace and mercy, for what is possible without the grace and mercy of the God who rules over all things? We cannot easily break down the “betrayal” and “hatred” that have arisen. Only God, who created heaven and earth and all things, and has the power to make the impossible possible, can be relied upon. From this point on, in verse 4, we can look to the Lord, who always does what is best for us, and pray, “Lord, show me the way to go.
2. waiting in prayer
Let us note a few characteristics of David’s prayer. David says that he “waits all day long” (v. 5). Prayer is not an overnight work. It is a work of persistent waiting for a sign of God’s mercy.
And verse 7, “Do not remind me of the sins and transgressions of my youth,” reminds us of our various past mistakes when we fall into hardship. When we fall into hardship, we are reminded of our past mistakes, not only from the outside, but also from within, as if our hearts are being crushed. However, even though you may recall these things, do not dredge up your own past. I deserve to suffer because I am like this. I deserve to suffer because of what I did. We must not think of God’s graciousness in a small way. Go out along the seashore and think of the grandeur of God who created the great ocean. When one perceives God correctly, one can persist in prayer.
In Psalm 24, God, the Creator of the world and the ruler of all things, was praised. In Psalm 25, that great God is spoken of as being merciful to sinners who fear Him (v. 8). God does not simply look to the wretched and the poor, but to “those who fear the Lord” (vv. 12, 14). This would mean that God is merciful to sinners who humbly lean on Him for help, saying that there is no help but from God. To such a person, God is faithful to deal with the covenant he has made with Christ and to show him the right way.

Often it is easy for people to look to God for a one-shot victory. They expect that if they pray, a weight will be lifted off their shoulders and blessings will roll in without them having to do anything. But God first shows us the way, v. 8, where “the way” is singular with an article. This could mean a particular path, v. 9, “His way,” v. 10, “the way of the Lord,” or v. 12, “the way that you should choose. Each person builds up his or her own life in the fear of the Lord and in being shown the way. What we thought we could not do, we taste the blessing of overcoming the barriers with God’s help. I will express with my mouth the concrete joy that God has indeed brought happiness into my life, indeed, He has allowed me to inherit the earth (v. 13). Even though, like the poet, “I alone am afflicted.” (v.16), or even when we are completely overwhelmed and feel that we cannot carry our troubles any longer, we must persevere in waiting for God’s time and follow the path He shows us. I pray that today will be another good day.
