1．神の歴史
箴言は、10章より、二行からなる種々の格言を集めたものとなっています。それらは、単に人間社会を生き抜く知恵を語るのみならず、次第に、「主」「神」という言葉を織り交ぜて、主との関係が私たちの幸せな人生の基本であることを語っています。
たとえば1節に「人は心に計画を持つ。しかし、舌への答えは主から来る。」とあります。著者が言いたいことは、人はあれこれ計画を立てるが、その結果は神様次第なのだということです（9節）。しかし、一般社会では、人はこのようには教えられないものでしょう。「為せば成る、為さねば成らぬ何事も」と、一々神を持ち出さないのです。初心貫徹、計画性と実行力、など、やればできると、自分の力を信じて行動するように励まします。しかし私たちの社会には、神仏を頼りたい状況が起こることは否定できません。いつでしたか、朝5時頃、いつもの道を通って教会に向かう途中、神社の前で手を合わせて祈っている老人の姿を見かけました。そういえば3.11の東日本大震災の時も、祈っている人がいました。新型コロナウィルス感染拡大の脅威にさらされた2019年から約3年間、私たちは、人間の限界、無力さを教えられました。感染し亡くなった人、生き延びた人を見ながら、確かに努力は実るけれども、それだけではない何かがあることを否定できない。聖書が言うように、計画が実るかどうかは、神次第であることは否定できない、ということでした。私たちの人生に、想定外のことはいくらでも起こるもので、神の助けを必死に祈りながら、限界に挑むのが本当なのでしょう。そして成功した時には、私ではない、神の助けがあったからこそ、と謙虚に語る、それが人間の営みなのではないでしょうか。人は自分たちで歴史を築き上げてきたかのように考えますが、実際に刻まれて来たHistory（歴史）は、His Storyつまり「神の歴史」と言うべきです。すべては、目に見えぬ主の支配のもとに起こっている出来事の積み重ねなのです（3節）。
33節に、人は籤（くじ）を引くが、その結果も主による、と言います。抽選も賭け事の当たりはずれも、神の御心次第だと言うわけです。そして、神がその本質において愛であり恵み深い方であると信頼することができるなら、最も闇濃き時代にあっても期待を抱き、その夜明けを待つこともできるのです。
2．主を第一とする
そこで著者は、3節に「あなたのわざを主にゆだねよ。そうすれば、あなたの計画は堅く立つ。」と言います。つまり、すべての鍵は主にある、だから主を第一とせよ、それが人生成功の極意だというわけです。そんなわけで7節に、主を喜ばせるならば、神がその人の最大の敵をも味方に変えてくれると言います。面白い格言、いや格言というよりも神に信頼する者への約束のようなものです。また、20節には、神のみことばを聞き、よく学ぶ人、主に信頼する者は、幸せになるといいます。これも同じで、ほぼ約束です。
10-15節には、「王」ということばが繰り返し現れています。10、11節は、王の恣意的な政治を戒めることばです。13-15節は、王と臣民の在り様を客観的に語っています。まとめていうと、権力を握った王もまた、自分の権力に優る神を無視して生きることは許されない、ということです。何よりも、歴史を支配し、自分を権力の座に着かせた神を恐れることだ、と言うわけです。正しい政治には知恵が必要です。しかしその知恵は上から与えられるものです。そして時代が困難であればあるほど、大きなかじ取りをするリーダーシップには、なおさら、天来の知恵が必要とされることでしょう。理に適ったことではないでしょうか。
こうして今週も主を恐れて、主と共に歩ませていただきたいと思うところです。

Chapter 16: History of God
1. history of god
Proverbs is a collection of various sayings consisting of two lines from Chapter 10. They not only speak of the wisdom of surviving in human society, but gradually interweave the words “the Lord” and “God,” and speak of how our relationship with the Lord is the basis of our happy life.
For example, verse 1 says, “Man has a plan in his heart. But the answer to the tongue comes from the Lord.” And so on. What the author is trying to say is that people plan this and that, but the outcome depends on God (v. 9). However, in the general society, people are not taught in this way. They don’t bring up God at every turn, saying, “If you do, it will be done; if you don’t do it, nothing will be done. We encourage people to believe in their own ability to do what they can do, and to act on their own initiative, planning and execution. However, we cannot deny that situations arise in our society where we need to rely on God and Buddha. When was it? Around 5:00 in the morning, on my way to the church through my usual path, I saw an elderly man praying with his hands together in front of a shrine. Come to think of it, there were people praying at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11. For about three years since 2019, when the new coronavirus infection spread threatened to spread, we have been taught about the limits of human beings and our helplessness. While watching those who were infected and died and those who survived, we cannot deny that while our efforts are indeed fruitful, there is something more than that. We could not deny that, as the Bible says, it is up to God to decide whether or not a plan will bear fruit. It is true that there are plenty of unexpected things that can happen in our lives, and we must push the envelope, praying desperately for God’s help. And when we succeed, we humbly say that it was not me, but God’s help that made it possible, and that is how human beings operate. People think as if they have made history by themselves, but the actual History that has been inscribed should be called His Story, or “God’s History. Everything is an accumulation of events under the invisible rule of the Lord (verse 3).
Verse 33 says that people draw lots, but the outcome also depends on the Lord. The outcome of the lottery and the winning or losing of a wager also depend on God’s will. And if we can trust that God is loving and gracious in His essence, we can hold out hope and wait for the dawn, even in the darkest of times.
2. putting the Lord first
The author then says in verse 3, “Cast your work upon the Lord, and your plans will stand firm. Then your plans will stand firm. In other words, the key to everything is in the Lord. In other words, the Lord is the key to everything, so put Him first. That is why verse 7 says that if you please the Lord, God will turn even your greatest enemy into your friend. It is an interesting saying, or rather, more like a promise to those who trust in God. Verse 20 also says that those who listen to God’s Word and study it well, those who trust in the Lord, will be happy. This is the same, almost a promise.
In verses 10-15, the word “king” appears repeatedly; verses 10 and 11 are a warning against the arbitrary government of kings; verses 13-15 speak objectively of the state of kings and subjects; and verses 14-15 are a warning against the arbitrary government of kings. In sum, a king in power is also not allowed to live without regard to God, who is superior to him in power. Above all, he is to fear God, who has ruled history and placed him in power. Wisdom is necessary for righteous government. But that wisdom is given from above. And the more difficult the times are, the more heavenly wisdom will be needed for leadership to make major decisions. It makes sense, doesn’t it?
Thus, this week, I would like to walk with the Lord in the fear of Him.
