11章　救い出されたヨアシュ

1．アタルヤの政権、メシヤ預言の危機

ヨシャファテ以降、ユダ南王国では、悪い王様が続きました。ヨラム、アハズヤそして、アハズヤの母アタルヤがそうです。

アタルヤはアハブとイゼベルの娘です。彼女は、エフーの反バアル主義の影響がユダ南王国にもおよび、自らの身に危険が迫ることを危惧したのでしょう。アハズヤと自分の子が殺されると、王の一族を皆殺しにし、自ら王権を握りました。こうして約13年、ユダ南王国にはバアル礼拝がはびこることになります。しかもそれは、アタルヤが名門ダビデ家の一族を見つけては殺し、その存続を脅かす、いわゆる神がご計画されたメシヤ誕生の成就すら危うくさせられていく時代だったのです。

もし、同じヨラム王の娘でアハズヤの異母姉妹、エホシェバが、ダビデ家の子の一人ヨアシュを助け出し、6年間神殿に付属する小部屋で匿い、養い育てることがなかったら、ダビデ家は途絶えていたということでもありました。サタンの願うところは、メシヤが現れないことであり、また、メシヤが人類救済の使命を完成しえないことです。サタンは、単に、ここかしこに小さな悪さをするような存在ではありません。むしろ、神の救いの目的を阻止しようと働いているのです。ですからイエス・キリストがダビデの子孫として誕生することを阻止し、さらにイエスが誕生してからは、荒野やゲッセマネの園で誘惑の限りを尽くし、その使命を果たし得ぬように妨害したのです。

2．悪魔の働き

この世には、そのような存在があることを覚えておく必要はあるでしょう。サタンや、悪魔という存在がいるのか、といぶかる方もおられるでしょうが、聖書の著者たちは、そのような存在を意識しています（エペソ6:11，12）。そしてイエスご自身「主よ、我らを試みに合わせず、悪より救い出したまえ」という祈りを教えられています。

3．ヨアシュの即位、7年の計画

さてアタルヤの第七年に、祭司エホヤダは、隠されていた王子ヨアシュを王にするための行動を開始しました。こうした行動が守られたのも、ユダの近衛兵の隊長たちや一般の民の中にも神への恐れがあったからでしょう。隊長たちは、主との誓いが王への忠誠に勝ることを覚えて行動しました。実に気の長い、忍耐のいる計画を彼らは実行したものです。彼らはただ単に現政権に対するクーデターを考えたのではなく、7年の歳月を重ねて、イスラエルを神の民として回復させる戦いを戦い抜いたのです。

そのような意味で、私たちも神の民として、教会がその霊性を深め、この世の社会に対して、世の光、地の塩として完成されていくように結束し時間をかけて戦うのです。しかしそれは示唆的です。というのも、かつてユダ南王国が神の民の国としてのアイデンティティを取り戻すため7年の戦いを勝ち抜いたように、現代のキリスト教会も、キリストを頭とするキリストの教会としてのアイデンティティを取り戻す戦いを迫られているからです。つまり、今の私たちは、まことにいのちあるキリストの福音に生きようとする者が集められ、結束するべき時代にあるのです（黙示録3:20）。

ただ、それを成し遂げてくださるのは、神です。私たちは神に願い、神に従いますが、それを形としてくださるのは神です。つまり、神のご計画を思い、そこに従っていく人生があります。しかしながら実際に私たちが考えることは目先の計画、つまりどのような仕事につくか、どのような家に住むか、どのように余暇を楽しむか、とただ自分を中心に物事を考えているだけです。それは、もはや過ぎ去った時で十分です。神の存在を知り、神の救いの大目的を知ったのなら、同じ志を持った者たちと共に、その完成に向けて生きる歩みがあります。神が、私たちの霊的な識別力を増し加え、神の望みや使命に生きることを願わせてくださるように、そしてまことの「平穏」（20節）を生活の中に得させてくださるように。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 11 Joash rescued

1．Atalya’s Regime, Crisis of Messianic Prophecy

After Jehoshaphat, the Southern Kingdom of Judah continued to have wicked kings. Joram, Ahaziah, and Ahaziah’s mother Athaliah.

Athaliah is the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel. She must have feared that the influence of Jehu’s anti-Baalism would spread to the Southern Kingdom of Judah, putting her in danger. When Ahaziah and her son were killed, she slaughtered her king’s clan and seized power for herself. For about 13 years, Baal worship was rampant in the Southern Kingdom of Judah. Moreover, it was an era in which Athaliah found and killed the distinguished family of David, threatening their existence and even the fulfillment of the so-called God-planned birth of the Messiah.

If Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram and the half-sister of Ahaziah, had not rescued Joash, one of the sons of the David family, and hid and raise him in a small room attached to the temple for six years, the family of David would have ceased to exist. Satan’s wish is that the Messiah never appears and he cannot complete his mission to save mankind. Satan isn’t just here and there doing little mischief. Rather, he works to thwart God’s purpose of salvation. Therefore, Jesus Christ was prevented from being born as a descendant of David. And after Jesus was born, Satan thwarted his mission by tempting him in the wilderness and in the Garden of Gethsemane.

2．work of the devil

We need to remember that there is such a thing in this world. Some may wonder if Satan or the devil exists, but the authors of the Bible are aware of such existences (Ephesians 6:11, 12). And Jesus himself teaches the prayer, “Lord, do not let us fall into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

3．Joash’s accession to the throne, a seven-year plan

Now in the seventh year of Athaliah, Jehoiada the priest set out to make the hidden prince Joash king. The reason why these actions were followed was probably because there was fear of God among the captains of the Judean guard and the common people. The captains acted knowing that their oath to the Lord was better than their loyalty to the king. It was a long and patient plan that they carried out. They did not simply think of a coup d’état against the current government, but over the course of seven years they fought through the battle to restore Israel as God’s people.

In that sense, we, as people of God, will unite and fight over time so that the church may deepen its spirituality and be perfected for society as the light of the world and the salt of the earth. It is. But it is suggestive. For, just as the Southern Kingdom of Judah won a seven-year battle to regain its identity as the nation of God’s people, the modern Christian church is also in a battle to regain its identity as the Church of Christ with Christ at its head. In other words, we are living in a time when those who truly live in the gospel of Christ must be gathered together and united (Revelation 3:20).

Only God can make it happen. We ask and obey God, but it is God who gives form. In other words, there is a life to think about God’s plan and follow it. However, what we actually think about is our short-term plan, that is, what kind of job we will have, what kind of house we will live in, and how we will enjoy our leisure time. It is enough in the past. If you know the existence of God and know the great purpose of God’s salvation, there is a way to live towards its completion with those who have the same aspirations. May God increase our spiritual discernment, make us desire to live according to His will and mission, and bring us true “peace” (v. 20) in our lives. I hope you have a good day today.
