7章 ベニヤミン族以外

1．北王国残りの部族の系譜

この章は、ベニヤミン族以外、全てかつての北王国に属する部族の子孫についての記録です。レビ族の扱いに比べればかなり短くまとめられています。順に、イッサカル（1-5節）、ゼブルン（6-11節）、ダン（12節）、ナフタリ（13節）、マナセ（14-19節）、エフライム（20-27節）と取り上げられています。そもそも、捕囚からの帰還民の中心はユダ族と、レビ族であるとすれば、この系図の記録はそれほど重要なものではないでしょう。しかし、著者にとってイスラエルは、12部族皆揃って一つという認識があるのです。ですから、彼らもまた記録されなくてはなりませんでした。

また、この系図にも、特徴的なことばやエピソードが挿入されています。それは、彼らがどこでメインラインのユダ族やレビ族と一つなのかを示すものです。たとえば、「勇士」ということばが繰り返し出てきます（2、5、7、9、11、40節）。レビの系図には出てこないものです。それは、読者、つまりイスラエルの国を再建するために、捕囚の地から引き揚げてきた者たちに対しての促しです。つまり、著者は、あなたがたの先祖たちには様々な勇士がいた、あなたがたも勇士であれ、と促しているのです。こうして読者は、皆心を一つにして、祖国再建の事業へと乗り出すように促されるわけです。

2．マナセ族の子孫のエピソード

次に、14-19節にはマナセ族の子孫のエピソードが取り上げられます。これは、既にヨシュア17:3、4で取り上げられているものです。それによれば、ツェロフハデには息子がいませんでした。そこで彼の死後、土地を失うはめになった娘たちが土地相続の権利を訴え、守られていくのです。このエピソードが敢えて取り上げられるのは、権利を主張しえない弱き者に対する神の配慮と真実さを示すものです。その身と力の小ささを嘆く者に、神はあわれみ深いことを確信すべきです。

3．エフライム族のエピソード

20節からのエフライム族のエピソードは、歴代誌のみに出てくる記事です。エフライムは、ヨシュアという偉大な指導者を産み出した部族ですが、ヨシュアについては、27節に簡単に記されるのみです。そしてここでは、エフライム族に起こった悲劇的な事件とその悲しみが詳しく語られています。困難に直面しながらも、それを乗り越えたエピソードとして、語り継がれてきたものなのでしょう。ただ聖書の他の箇所にこの記事はありません。

エピソードは、息子たちを殺される所から始まっています。彼は兄弟の慰めを得て、新たに子を設けています。また彼の娘たちが町を建てあげています。ここには、傷む者を思いやる優しい家族・親族の姿があります。しばしば人の人生には、心を挫かせる悲劇的な出来事が起こることがあるものです。そのような時に、その心を思いやる人々の気持ちはありがたいものです。人間にとって大切なのは、そのような心遣い、互いに思いやって物事を乗り越えていくものだと言えます。

4．アシェル部族の系図

最後のアシェル族（7:30-40）の系図では、「選り抜きの勇士」ということばに注目されます。大切なのは、歴代誌の著者がイスラエル北王国を認めている視点です。捕囚帰還民の多くはユダ南王国の者でした。しかし彼らは100年も前に滅んでしまったイスラエル北王国の存在を認め、彼らもまた一緒に再興されることを望んでいるのです。失われた者、失われていく者への思いと配慮、さらにはその回復を願う思いが、物事をまことに建て上げていくのです。もちろん、それはお節介とは違います。鬱陶しいお節介と、本当に喜ばれる思いやりは、別物です。皆がそろって教会が建てあがる、思いやりのある関係を築いてまいりたいものです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 7 Non-Benjamin

1．Genealogy of the Remaining Tribes of the Northern Kingdom

This chapter is a record of the descendants of all tribes belonging to the former Northern Kingdom, with the exception of the Benjamin tribe. Compared to the treatment of the Levites, it is summarized quite briefly. In order, Issachar (1-5), Zebulun (6-11), Dan (12), Naphtali (13), Manasseh (14-19), Ephraim (20-27) . If, in the first place, the majority of the returnees from captivity were the tribes of Judah and Levi, then this genealogical record would not be so important. However, for the author, Israel is recognized as one with all 12 tribes. So they too had to be recorded.

In addition, characteristic words and episodes are also inserted in this genealogy. It shows where they are one with the mainline tribes of Judah and Levi. For example, the word “warrior” appears repeatedly (verses 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 40). It does not appear in Levi’s genealogy. It is an invitation to the readers, those who have returned from captivity to rebuild the nation of Israel. In other words, the author urges that your ancestors had various kinds of warriors, and you too should be warriors. In this way, the readers are encouraged to unite and embark on the task of rebuilding their homeland.

2．Manasse descendant episode

Next, verses 14-19 deal with the descendants of the Manasseh tribe. This is already addressed in Joshua 17:3,4. According to it, Zelophehade had no sons. After his death, his daughters, who had to lose their land, appealed for their right to inherit the land, and it was protected. The purposeful inclusion of this episode demonstrates God’s consideration and truthfulness for the weak and unclaimed. We should be sure that God is merciful to those who lament over their weakness and weakness.

3．Ephraim episode

The Ephraim episode from verse 20 is an article that appears only in Chronicles. Ephraim is the tribe that produced a great leader named Joshua, but Joshua is only mentioned briefly in verse 27. And here the tragic incident and the grief that happened to the Ephraim tribe are told in detail. It must have been handed down as an episode of overcoming difficulties while facing difficulties. Nowhere else in the Bible does this article exist.

The episode begins with the sons being killed. He takes the comfort of his brother and has another child. And his daughters are building the city. Here you can see the kindness of family and relatives who care for the injured. Oftentimes, tragic events happen in people’s lives that break their hearts. At such times, the feelings of people who care about their hearts are appreciated. It can be said that what is important for human beings is that kind of thoughtfulness, caring for each other and overcoming things.

4． Asher tribe genealogy

In the final genealogy of the tribe of Asher (7:30-40), the term “chosen warrior” is noted. What is important is the perspective from which the Chronicles author acknowledges the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Many of the captive returnees were from the southern kingdom of Judah. However, they recognize the existence of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, which was destroyed 100 years ago, and they want to be reborn together. Thoughts and consideration for the lost and those who are about to be lost, as well as a wish for their recovery, truly build things up. Of course, that’s not meddlesome.
