14章　神により頼むダビデ

1．ダビデの王権の確立

歴代誌は、既に述べたように、サムエル記と一緒に読んでいく必要のあるものです。サムエル記がイスラエルの一般史を記録しているとすれば、歴代誌はその解釈を伝えていると考えられるからです。

最初の王サウルの死後、ダビデが後継者となりました。しかしダビデの王位は、即時に確立したわけではなく、協力や戦いを通して、王となっていくのです。ダビデは、神が自分をイスラエルの王として立ててくださることを信じていました。しかしそれを実現してくださったのは、神でした。文字通り彼が王となるのは、まだ先のことでしたが。

また、サウル王の死後、ダビデが勢いづいて王とされたのは、ダビデ個人が祝福されるためではなく、ダビデを通して「主の民イスラエル」が祝福されるためでした（2節）。大切な点です。リーダーシップの確立は、必然的に組織が建て上げられるためです。それは個人の栄誉が称えられるためのものではありません。ダビデもそれを心得、その方向に進むことで、他者の協力を得、そして家族も祝されているのです。

2．ダビデの敵対勢力

しかし他方、ダビデにはさらなる脅威も生まれました。ペリシテ人は、かつてダビデをサウルから匿った者たちでした。しかし今やダビデは敵側、しかもイスラエルの北側と南側を統合し、イスラエルを強くする王として動き出すのですから、ペリシテ人も黙ってはいられませんでした。彼らはダビデを狙って攻め上って来るのです。神に引き上げられて、王とされたダビデ、しかし彼はいいことずくめ、協力者が起こされ勢いづくばかりではなかったのです。むしろダビデの人生は一層ハードルの高いものとなっていくのです。

3．ダビデと神の個人的関係

そのようなダビデに学ぶのは、ダビデが行動に移る前に、一々神に伺いを立て、神に祈りながら事を進めたことでしょう（10、14節）。ダビデは、繰り返し主を仰ぎました。主のみこころに意を注ぎ、徹底して主に従おうとしました。それはやはり、サウルに追われた逃亡の生活の中で、神のみことばに支えられた経験から来ているのです。神のみことばに支えられて歩む姿勢が、彼の人生経験の中で形作られていたのです。

そして神に拠り頼んだ彼の姿勢は、彼に神の勝利をもたらしました。それは、止めることのできない水の勢いに例えられています（11節）。「破る」は、ヘブル語でパラツですが、13章のウザの割り込みによって、ペレツ・ウザと名付けられたその地名と同じ言葉です。つまりペレツは、「割り込む」を意味することばの語根「パラツ」の派生語です。実に興味深い表現です。というのも、ウザのとっさの割り込みで不意打ちの不幸を経験したダビデが、今度は、水が敗れ出るような、避けることのできなかった主の突如の割り込みによって勝利を経験しているのです。ダビデの人生に突然神が割り込んで、物事の方向性を大きく変えていくイメージです。

神を信じながら、神にわずかしか期待しない現実があるものです。目に見えない神など当てにできない、と自分を引き揚げてくれる誰か、助けてくれる誰かにあてのない期待を抱き続けていることがあるものでしょう。しかし、主の割り込みがあることをダビデは経験しています。それもダビデに魅力があり、神に特別そのようにされる理由があったというわけではなく、神に伺い、命じられたとおりに物事を進めたダビデの人生に神が割り込んだということが大事です。偶像を焼却し、神に専心したダビデに加勢し、周囲の国々に恐怖を起こされた神がおられました。物事に割り込まれる神がいる、その信仰をしっかり持ちましょう。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 14 David relying on God

1．Establishment of Kingship of David

Chronicles, as already mentioned, should be read together with the Book of Samuel. If the Book of Samuel records the general history of Israel, then Chronicles is thought to convey that interpretation.

After the death of the first king, Saul, David became his successor. However, David’s throne was not established immediately, but he became king through cooperation and battle. David believed that God would make him king of Israel. But it was still some time before he literally became king.

Also, after the death of King Saul, the reason why David was made king was not to bless David personally, but to bless “the people of the Lord, Israel” through David (verse 2). This is important. Establishing leadership inevitably builds an organization. It is not for personal honour. David knows that, and by going in that direction, he gets help from others, and his family is celebrated.

2．David’s Opponents

On the other hand, however, David also faced an additional threat. The Philistines were the ones who once hid David from Saul. But now that David was on the enemy’s side, moreover, he was going to unify the northern and southern sides of Israel, and as the king who strengthened Israel, the Philistines could not remain silent. They are attacking David. David was lifted up by God and made king, but he was full of good things, and his collaborators were raised and he was not only gaining momentum. Rather, David’s life becomes a higher hurdle.

3．David’s personal relationship with God

What we can learn from such a David is that before he moved to action, he would ask God one by one and proceed while praying to God (verses 10, 14). David repeatedly looked to the Lord. He focused on the will of the Lord and tried to obey Him thoroughly. After all, it comes from the experience of being supported by the Word of God in the life of a fugitive chased by Saul. The attitude of walking supported by God’s Word was shaped by his life experience.

And his reliance on God brought him victory. It is likened to the unstoppable force of water (v. 11). “Break” is the Hebrew word Palatz, which is the same word as the name of the place named Perez-Uzzah by the interruption of Uzzah in chapter 13. In other words, perez is a derivative of the root word “paratu” which means “interrupt”. It’s a really interesting expression. For David, who had suffered a sudden misfortune at the sudden interruption of Uzzah, now experiences victory through the unavoidable sudden interruption of the Lord, like the overthrow of the waters. It is an image of God suddenly interrupting David’s life and changing the direction of things greatly.

There is a reality in which we believe in God but expect little from Him. You can’t count on an unseen God, and you may have hopeless hopes for someone to lift you up or help you. However, David experiences that there is an interruption of the Lord. It wasn’t that David was attractive or that God had a particular reason for doing so, but rather that God intervened in David’s life as he asked God and proceeded as he was commanded. There was a God who burned idols, helped David with his devotion to God, and aroused terror in the nations around him. Let’s hold firmly to that faith that there is a God who interrupts things.
