1. 申命記28章が私たちに問いかけるもの
申命記28章は、モーセの長い三回目の説教の終わりに出てくる、とても大切な部分です。ここでは、イスラエルの人々が神との約束（契約）を守るかどうかによって「祝福」か「呪い」か、どちらの道を歩むかが決まると語られ ています。
この契約は、当時よく見られた「王様と国民との約束の形式」に似ています。神が王のような存在で、イスラエルの民がその民、つまり神に従う人々なのです。
2．祝福を受けるためには（28:1-14）
もしイスラエルの人々が神のことばに従って生きるなら、神はとても豊かな祝福をくださると語られています。たとえば、
・ 作物がよく実り、家族が守られ、平和な生活ができる
・ 他の国々が「この民には神がともにおられる」と気づくようになる
ここで大切なことは二つあります。一つは、祝福はイスラエルの繁栄だけではなく、他の国々に神の素晴らしさを示す役割もあるということです。
もう一つは、「一人一人が信じていれば十分」ということではない点です。ヘブライ語の原文では、「あなたたち（複数形）」と書かれています（9–10節）。つまり、祝福は「みんなで神に従う」ときに与えられるのです（申命記6:4–5）。
このことは、現代の教会や地域社会にも当てはまります。「自分だけ信じていればいい」という個人主義ではなく、みんなで信じ、共に歩むことの大切さが語られていると言えるでしょう。
3．神に背くとどうなるのか（28:15-68）
反対に、神のことばに従わないなら、さまざまな苦しみが起こるとも語られています。
内容はとても具体的で、たとえば、
・ 病気や貧しさ、争いが続く
・他の国に連れて行かれ、非常に厳しい状況に置かれる（68節）
これは、「神にも人にも見放されてしまう」という、最も悲しい状態を表しています。
そして実際、イスラエルの歴史の中で、神から離れたときにバビロン捕囚や外国への離散（ディアスポラ）などが起こりました。
ただし、申命記はこれで終わりではありません。30章では回復の希望が語られ、たとえ呪いを経験しても、悔い改めと回帰を通して再び神の祝福を受ける道があることを忘れないでください。
4．イエス・キリストによって変わったこと
この神の恵みは、新約におけるキリストの救いにつながるものです。イエスは、「神に従えば祝福」「従わなければ呪い」という単純な仕組みを新しくしてくださいました。新約聖書で使徒パウロは、こう説明しています。
「キリスト（イエス）は、私たちのために呪いとなってくださった」（ガラテヤ3:13）本来なら、神に背いた人が受けるはずの罰（呪い）を、イエスが十字架で代わりに受けてくださったというのです。ですから今、私たちは「よい行いによって神に受け入れられる」のではなく、イエスを信じる信仰によって祝福を受けることができます。
しかし、これは「神に従わなくてもいい」という意味ではありません。むしろ、イエスの愛を知ることで、感謝の気持ちから神の言葉に従いたい、応えたいという心が起こることが大切なのです。
5．私たちの教会・コミュニティにできること
申命記28章は、「一人ではなく、みんなで神に従う」ことの大切さを教えています（ヨハネ17章参照）。
今の私たちの生活で考えると、
・ 家族でいっしょに祈る時間を持つ
・ 教会の中で争うよりも、赦し合う
・ 困っている人に優しくする
こうした行動の中に、神に従う生き方の実践があると言えるでしょう。一人では難しくても、皆で歩めば祝福は広がっていきます。
6．さいごに：あなたは、どちらの道を選びますか？
申命記28章は、私たち一人ひとりに問いかけています。「祝福の道」と「呪いの道」、あなたはどのような生き方を選びますか？
この問いに答える前に、まずあなたのために呪いを受けてくださったイエスの姿を心に思い起こしてみてください。そして、感謝の気持ちを持って、神に従う歩みを始めていくことこそが、本当の「祝福に生きる道」なのです。主の命の祝福が、あなたに満ち溢れますように。では、また明日。
Deuteronomy 28: The Way of Blessing or the Way of Curse—Which Will You Choose?
1. What Deuteronomy 28 Teaches Us
Deuteronomy 28 is a very important part of Moses’ third and final speech. In this chapter, Moses tells the people of Israel that they must choose: will they follow God and receive blessing, or turn away and receive curses?
This agreement between God and the people is like a contract between a king and his people. God is the king, and the Israelites are His people who must follow His ways.
2. How to Receive God’s Blessing (Verses 1–14)
If the people obey God’s commands, He promises to bless them in many ways:
Their crops will grow well, their families will be safe, and they will live in peace.
Other nations will see that God is with them and respect them.
There are two important things to remember here:
These blessings are not just for the people’s own happiness. They are also meant to show other nations how great God is.
The blessings are not only for individuals. In the original Hebrew, the word “you” is plural. That means the blessings come when everyone obeys together (see Deuteronomy 6:4–5).
This is also true for churches and communities today. Faith is not just about “me and God.” It’s about walking together in faith and obedience.
3. What Happens If We Turn Away from God (Verses 15–68)
If the people do not obey God, many troubles will come. The Bible gives many examples:
Sickness, poverty, and fighting
Being taken away to other countries and treated badly (see verse 68)
This shows the most painful situation: being rejected by both people and God.
Sadly, this happened in Israel’s history. When they turned away from God, they were taken into exile in Babylon and scattered to other nations.
But the story does not end there. In chapter 30, God gives hope. Even if people experience curses, they can return to God. If they repent, God will bless them again.
4. What Changed Through Jesus Christ
This message of blessing and curse connects to the good news of Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus changed the old system of “obey and be blessed, disobey and be cursed.”
The apostle Paul writes:
“Christ became a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13)
This means that Jesus took the punishment we deserved. He died on the cross in our place. Now, we don’t receive God’s blessing because of our good works, but because we believe in Jesus.
But this does not mean we can ignore God’s commands. Instead, when we understand Jesus’ love, we want to obey God—not because we must, but because we are thankful.
5. What We Can Do in Our Churches and Communities
Deuteronomy 28 teaches us that blessing comes when we follow God together (see John 17).
In our daily lives, this might look like:
Praying together as a family
Forgiving each other in church
Helping people who are in need
These are simple ways to live in obedience to God. It may be hard to do alone, but when we walk together, God’s blessing can grow.
6. In the End: Which Path Will You Choose?
Deuteronomy 28 asks us a big question:
Will you choose the way of blessing or the way of curse?
Before you answer, remember this: Jesus already took the curse for you. Now, you can walk in the way of blessing by trusting Him.
