31章は、先に説明された幕屋を実際的に作る職人を任命し（1-11）、さらに安息日と定められた日をどのように過ごすか（13-18）を説明しています。
1．職人の任命（31:1-11）
まず、幕屋とその中にある調度品すべてのものを作る職人として、ユダ部族のフルの子であるウリの子ベツァルエルとダン部族のアヒサマクの子オホリアブが任命されます。そして神は言うのです。「彼に、知恵と英知と知識とあらゆる務めにおいて、神の霊を満たした」（3節）と。神の働きのために、ご自分の霊を満たすのですまた「心に知恵ある者の心に知恵を授ける」と言います（6節）。知恵は、人間が研鑽して生み出すものではなく、天から与えられるもの。たしかによく「ひらめいた」などと言うこともあるように、人は、自分の能力を超えた知恵を、苦闘の中で天から与えられる経験をするものではないでしょうか。
そのような意味では、神の働きに携わる時には、祈りをもってこれにあたる遜った心を持つことです。というのも自分の作品を手掛けているのではなく、神の作品を手掛けているからです。教会を建て上げることは特にそうでしょう。教会は、神の作品であり、神の栄光が現れる形で私たちの技術が生かされなくてはなりません。クリスチャン家庭を作ることも同じです。ただアットホームな家族を作るというのではなく、霊的な、つまり敬虔さと平安に満ちた家庭を作る努力は、神の霊の働きなくして不可能です。遜り、跪いて神の助けを求めて祈る、そこに神の力も現されるのです。人の努力はみな神の恵みによって実るのです。
2．安息日について（31:13-18）
次に安息日と呼ばれる日について。今日、一般的に日本のキリスト教会では、これを日曜日と定めています。ネパールでは文化的なこともあって土曜日なのですが。ともあれ、安息日は、第一に、神と人との間のしるしです（13節）。神が人を聖別する方であることを知るしるしです。聖別は、神のために特別に区別されることを意味します。つまり、人は、何か特別な用向きのために使うものがあれば、それを、脇に寄せておく、あるいは特別な場所に置いておくものでしょう。それと同じです。安息日、クリスチャンと呼ばれる人々は、特別な場所に区別されて置かれるのです。
普段、私たちは社会において、世俗的な感覚の中で、また罪の混沌とした世の中にもみくちゃにされて生きていたりします。日曜に教会へ向かう、そこには、一般社会とは区別された空間、神を賛美し、神に祈りをささげ、神のことばが語られることに耳を傾ける、そしてしばし襟首を正され、反省と内省の時を過ごす、いわば世俗社会にはない、静かに心を緩めて、神の安息を味わう時を持つのです。
安息日の本質は、神の安息を味わうことです（17節）。それは、たとえ幕屋を作る仕事を先に進める差し迫った必要があろうと、全くその仕事を休んでしまうほど重要な日です。神のための働きという理由であれば、休み抜きの突貫工事もありなのだというのではありません。神は「安息を守らなければならない」と休息を命じるのです。大切なのは、「安息の日」を守るのではなく「安息」を守ることです。
マルタとマリヤの話を思い出したいところです（ルカ10:40-41）。イエスは、忙しく接待するマルタの行為を喜びましたが、足元に座り耳を傾けるマリヤの態度を評価されました。それは、イエスがご自分の話をまず聞いてほしいと願っている時に、マリヤがそうしたからです。神は、安息日においては私たちと共に安息の時を過ごし、私たちを祝福したいと願っておられるのですから、まずその神の思いを汲んで、神と共にゆっくり、静かに、楽しみと喜びの時としてこれを過ごすことが本当なのです。
そして自分が神に造られた者であり、神あっての仕事、家族、人生であることを覚えるのです。ある意味でこれがないからこそ、人間は目的を持って仕事をしているようでありながら、いつしか仕事に振り回されて、自分を見失い、疲れ果ててしまっているのではないでしょうか。実際には、日曜日に休むことのできない仕事もあるものでしょう。医師、警察、警備など人命を与る仕事、また今日の経済システムではサービス業もそうでしょう。しかし安息日とは朝の10時半からの1時間ばかり、礼拝と定められた時間のことではありません。やはりそれは、土曜日の夜から日曜日の日没までの24時間、そのどの時間であれ、また週日であっても、神と豊かな安息の時を過ごすことを神は命じておられると言えるでしょう。神の祝福がありますように。チャンネル登録、メンバー登録よろしくお願いいたします。では、また明日、このチャンネルでお会いしましょう。
Exodus Chapter 31: The Sabbath Law
Chapter 31 explains the appointment of craftsmen to build the Tabernacle (verses 1-11) and how to observe the Sabbath day (verses 13-18).
Appointment of Craftsmen (31:1-11)
First, God appoints Bezalel from the tribe of Judah and Oholiab from the tribe of Dan to make everything for the Tabernacle. God says, “I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills” (verse 3).
Wisdom isn’t something we humans create; it’s given by God. When working for God, it’s important to approach with humility and prayer, recognizing that we are working on God’s project, not our own.
Building a church or a Christian family isn’t just about creating a friendly environment; it’s about creating a place filled with piety and peace. This is only possible with God’s Spirit. Humble prayer brings God’s power, and our efforts bear fruit through God’s grace.
About the Sabbath (31:13-18)
Next, let’s talk about the Sabbath day. Today, most churches in Japan observe it on Sunday, while in Nepal it’s on Saturday due to cultural reasons.
The Sabbath is a sign between God and His people (verse 13). It signifies that God sets us apart as holy for Him. Just like we set aside something special for a particular purpose, Christians are set apart for God.
During the week, we live in a secular world, but on the Sabbath, we go to church, an environment separate from everyday life. We praise God, pray, listen to His word, and spend time reflecting and resting in God’s peace.
The essence of the Sabbath is to experience God’s rest (verse 17). It’s so important that even urgent work, like building the Tabernacle, should be paused. God commands us to keep the Sabbath, not just as a day but as a time of rest.
Remember the story of Martha and Mary (Luke 10:40-41). Jesus appreciated Martha’s hospitality but praised Mary for sitting at His feet and listening. God wants us to spend restful, joyful time with Him on the Sabbath.
And remember that you are created by God, and that with God you have a job, a family, and a life. In a sense, this is the reason why people seem to work with a purpose, yet somehow get swept up in their work, lose sight of themselves, and become exhausted. In reality, some jobs do not allow you to take Sundays off. Doctors, police, security guards, and other lifesaving jobs, and in today’s economic system, the service industry as well. But the Sabbath is not about an hour or so of worship on Sunday morning. The important thing is to have a time to rejoice with God in whatever time of rest He has set aside for blessing.
