1．なぜ「主の契約の箱」が重要なのか
「主の契約の箱」は、ただの箱ではありません。これは、神がそこに共におられることを表す、とても大切なものでした。さらに重要なのは、神に近づくためには、神が定めた方法に従う必要があるということです。このことは昔の話だけでなく、今の私たちにも関係しています。
2．ダビデの決断：エルサレムを礼拝の中心に
ダビデは王になったとき、国づくりの最初の一歩として、首都エルサレムを礼拝の中心地にしようと決めました。神を礼拝の中心に置くことが、国の土台になると考えたからです。これは、前の王サウルが考えなかった新しい試みでした。
しかし、「主の契約の箱」は長い間、人々から忘れられていました。ペリシテ人に奪われた後、箱が戻ってきても、ユダの国境にあるアビナダブの家に二十年もの間、置かれたままだったのです（サム上7:2）。その後も長い年月が過ぎ、ようやくダビデはこの箱を取り戻そうと決心し、行動を始めました。
4．事件：なぜウザは死んだのか？
ダビデは箱を運ぶとき、新しい車に載せました。それは効率的で立派な方法に思えましたが、神がモーセに示した律法では「肩で担ぐ」ことが決められていました（出25:14–15、民4:15）。
運ぶ途中で箱が揺れたとき、ウザという人が手を伸ばして箱を押さえました。その瞬間、彼は命を落とします。なぜでしょうか。人間としては自然な反応ですが、神は「箱には触れてはいけない」と教えていました。これは、神が特別な方であることを人々に忘れさせないためです。神の教えを理解せず、神が定めた方法で箱を運ばなかったことが、ウザが罰せられた理由でした。
この出来事に恐れを感じたダビデは、箱の運搬をいったんやめました。しかし、箱を預かった家に神の祝福があったと聞き、もう一度挑戦します。今度は律法に従い、肩で担ぎ、いけにえをささげ、ダビデ自身も喜びのあまり踊りながらエルサレムに箱を迎え入れました。ダビデは、自分の考えではなく、神が定めた方法に従うことの大切さを学んだのです。そして、神の秩序に従うとき、神の臨在は祝福と喜びをもたらします。
物事には神が定めた正しい方法があります。現代では、イエス・キリストの十字架を仰ぎ、罪を悔い改め、信仰をもって神に近づくことが求められています。キリストを通さずに神に近づくことはできません。正しい方法で神に近づくなら、神の祝福を受けることができると信じてよいのです。
6．ダビデとミカルの対比：神への姿勢
ダビデは王の服を脱ぎ、亜麻布の衣を着て踊りました。これは「自分の力ではなく、神が王にしてくださった」という思いを表しています。
一方、妻のミカルはその姿を見てダビデを軽蔑しました。彼女にとって、神は遠い存在だったのかもしれません。しかし、それだけではなく、愛や失望、怒りや屈辱など、さまざまな感情が混ざっていたと考えられます。（詳しくは「みんなの聖書学舎・二子玉川聖書学院学院長ブログ『ミカルはなぜダビデを軽蔑したのか？』」をご覧ください。）
7．まとめ：現代における「神に近づく方法」と祈り
今の時代には、神の臨在を表す「主の箱」はありません。しかし、イエスは「ふたりでも三人でも、わたしの名によって集まるところには、わたしもその中にいる」（マタイ18:20）と語りました。つまり、箱があるかどうかに関係なく、神は私たちと共にいてくださると約束されたのです。
ダビデはこの出来事の後、詩篇132篇を記したと伝えられています。彼は「主よ。ダビデのために、彼のすべての苦しみを思い出してください」と祈りました。神は私たちの人生を細やかに見守り、心をくみ取ってくださる方です。私たちも、弱さや欠点があっても、神を祝福の源として認め、正しい方法で神に近づこうとしたダビデに注目しましょう。今日も、神の平安と祝福がある一日となるよう祈ります。それでは、また明日。
Season 6: 2 Samuel 6 – The Ark of the Covenant
1. Why is the Ark of the Covenant important?
The Ark of the Covenant was not just a box. It showed that God was with His people. But there is something more: to come close to God, people had to follow His way. This is not only an old story. It is important for us today too.
2. David’s decision: Making Jerusalem the center of worship
When David became king, his first step was to make Jerusalem the center of worship. He believed that putting God at the center would make the nation strong. This was something King Saul never tried.
But the Ark had been forgotten for a long time. After the Philistines took it and later returned it, it stayed in Abinadab’s house for twenty years (1 Samuel 7:2). Many more years passed before David decided to bring it back.
4. The event: Why did Uzzah die?
David put the Ark on a new cart. It looked like a good idea, but God’s law said the Ark must be carried on shoulders (Exodus 25:14–15; Numbers 4:15).
When the Ark shook, Uzzah reached out to hold it. At that moment, he died. Why? It seems natural to help, but God said, “Do not touch the Ark.” This was to remind people that God is holy and different. Uzzah and David forgot this and did not follow God’s way.
David stopped the plan. But later, when he heard that the house with the Ark was blessed, he tried again. This time, they carried it the right way, offered sacrifices, and David danced with joy. He learned that God’s way is best. When we follow God’s order, His presence brings blessing and joy.
Today, the way to come to God is through Jesus Christ. We cannot come to God without Him. If we come God’s way, we can be sure of His blessing.
6. David and Michal: Two attitudes toward God
David took off his royal clothes and wore a linen garment. He danced before God to show that God made him king.
But his wife Michal saw this and despised him. Maybe God felt far from her. Or maybe she had many feelings—love, anger, disappointment, and pain. (For more, see our blog: “Why Did Michal Despise David?”)
7. Today: How do we come close to God?
We do not have the Ark today. But Jesus said, “Where two or three gather in my name, I am there with them” (Matthew 18:20). God is with us because He promised.
David prayed in Psalm 132, “Lord, remember David and all his hardships.” God knows our hearts and cares for us. Let us also come to Him in the right way, trusting Him as the source of blessing. May God’s peace and blessing be with you today.
