24章 ダビデの王位を認めるサウル

1．不思議なめぐり合わせ
エン・ゲディは、死海の西岸に位置する荒れ地です。今は、イスラエルの避暑地として多くの観光客が集まっていますが、かつては荒涼とした荒野でした。ともあれ、そこにダビデが隠れているとサウルは知って、3000人、つまり三つの精鋭部隊を従えダビデを探しに出かけました。サウルとダビデの力の差は歴然としていました。今度こそダビデの息の根を止める、そんなつもりだったのでしょう。ダビデの包囲網は次第に狭まり、ダビデが捕らえられるのも時間の問題でした。しかし彼はなかなかダビデを見つけられず、そうこうしている間に、用を足したくなり、洞穴に入るのです。イスラエルの燦燦と輝く太陽の下から、急に暗い洞窟の中へと入ったので、目が慣れなかったのでしょう。彼は、まさか奥にダビデが潜んでいるとは思いつきもしなかったのです。逆に、ダビデにとっては、それはサウルに反逆する絶好の機会でした。しかしダビデはサウルを殺めようとはしなかったのです。
2．ダビデの思い
サウルに命を狙われ、追われ続けた日々の、ダビデの思いは詩篇に綴られています。ダビデには懸賞金がかけられていました。見知らぬ者たち、横暴な者、荒くれ者がこぞってダビデを狙っていました。ダビデは祈ります。「私をあわれんでください。神よ。私をあわれんでください。（詩篇57:1）」執拗な追跡、長引く逃亡生活に、ダビデの心は疲れ果てていたのです。そして告白します「敵が罠をしかけたので、私は言いようのない恐怖にとらわれています」（57:6：リビングバイブル訳）。さらに祈っています。「憤りをもって滅ぼし尽くしてください。滅ぼし尽くしてください（詩篇59:13）」また、「私は主に向かい、声をあげて叫びます（詩篇142:1）」と。声を上げて叫ぶ祈りを経験した人にはわかるでしょう。それはまらに窮地に立たせられた者の祈りです。さらにこう告白しています「ご覧ください。私の右に目を注いでください。私には顧みてくれる人がいません。私は逃げ場さえも失って私のいのちを気にかける人もいないのです（142:4）ダビデは孤立無援でした。
極度の疲労、言いようのない恐怖、激しい怒り、絶叫の祈り、孤立無援、サウルに追い詰められたダビデは、人間以下、野獣のようでした。何とも悲しい人生です。ダビデは、手に刀を握りながら、今こそ、自分を悩まし苦しめてきた、サウルを一息に葬り去ることができる、そう思ったことでしょう。しかし、これほどの絶望的な気持ちにあり、怒りに体を震わせながら、ダビデはサウルを殺そうとしなかったのです。なぜでしょう。ダビデは告白します。「ああ神様、いったいどこにおられるのですか。一滴の水もない、からからの荒地で、気も狂わんばかりに私は神様を慕い求めています。神の聖所へ行ってお力とご栄光を拝したいと、どれほど願っていることでしょう。私にとって神様の愛と恵みはいのちよりも大切なのです」（詩篇63:1：リビングバイブル訳）
3．ダビデの反逆
ダビデは何も知らずに去っていくサウルに警告を発しました。彼は上着の端を切り取ったのです。当時、これは不忠、謀反の象徴と見なされるものでした。ダビデはサウルに呼びかけ、サウルが、ダビデの手の中にあったことを知らせます。そしてダビデは、サウルの誤解を解こうと努めました。そのようなダビデに、サウルは、彼こそが合法的な自分の後継者であることを悟っていくのです。
人の悪に対して、激しくやるせない思いになることはあるものでしょう。しかし、神を愛し生きているならば、そのような思いに心が鬱積されること自体が苦しいものです。心が荒んで、神との交わりを失うことが悲しいのです。ダビデがサウルに激しい思いを抱きながらも、サウルに手を下さなかったのは、神との関係を大事にしたからです。ダビデは、目先の安堵よりも永遠の魂の平安を求めていました。サウルを殺すことで、神との関係が破壊するのだったら、そんなのはごめんだということです。
神との関係を大事にすることが魂を救うことになります。たとえ心をかき乱す不当な取り扱いがあったとしても、一切を神にゆだねることです。復讐は神がなさること、正しさを立証することも神がなさることです。何もかも飲み込み平然としていられる深い海のような心を持たせていただきたいものです。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 24 Saul Recognizing David’s Throne

Anyway, Saul knew that David was hiding there, and went out to find David with 3000 people, that is, three elite troops. The difference in power between Saul and David was clear. Perhaps he intended to kill David this time. David’s siege gradually narrowed, and it was only a matter of time before David was captured. But he had a hard time finding David, and while doing so, he went into the cave to relieve himself. - David’s thoughts
David’s thoughts on the days of being chased by Saul’s life are spelled out in the Psalms. David had a bounty on it. Strangers, domineering, and rogues were all aiming for David. David prays. “Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, (Psalm 57:1)” David’s heart was exhausted by his relentless pursuit and protracted escape. And he confesses, ” I’m trapped in indescribable horror because the enemy has set a trap” (57: 6: Living Bible). In addition he is praying.” Consume them in your wrath, consume them till they are no more (Psalm 59:13)” and “I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy (Psalm 142:1).” Anyone who has experienced a prayer that screams out loud will know. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life (142:4) David was isolated and unsupported.

With a sword in his hand, David would have thought that now is the time to bury Saul, who has bothered and afflicted himself, in one breath. But with such despair, David shook his body in anger and refused to kill Saul. I wonder why. David confesses. “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, “(Psalm 63: 1)

David issued a warning to Saul leaving without knowing anything. He cut off the edge of his coat. At that time, this was a sign of disloyalty and rebellion. David calls on Saul to let him know that Saul was in David’s hands. And David sought to resolve Saul’s misunderstanding. To such David, Saul realizes that he is his legitimate successor.
There are times when you feel uncomfortable with human evil. However, if you love God and live, it is painful for you to be overwhelmed by such thoughts. It is sad that my heart is rough and I lose fellowship with God. David had a strong feeling for Saul, but did not touch Saul because he cherished his relationship with God. David sought eternal soul peace rather than his immediate relief. If killing Saul destroys your relationship with God, that’s a shame.
