1．神さまが決める相続地（1–5節）
イスラエルの人々は、神さまが約束してくださったカナンの地に入りました。そこで、9つ半の部族がそれぞれ土地を受け取ることになりました。土地の分け方については、くじを使って決めました。なぜくじを使ったのかというと、神さまが一番良い方法で分けてくださると信じていたからです。つまり、神さまの決め方にすべてをゆだねる方法だったのです。
2．45年ぶりに登場したカレブ（6–9節）
ここで一人の人物が登場します。その名はカレブです。彼は昔、モーセに選ばれてカナンの地を偵察しに行ったことがありました。そのとき、他の人たちは「この土地を占領するのは無理だ」（14:8）と言いましたが、カレブだけは「神さまがくださる土地だから大丈夫です！」と信じて語りました（民数記13-14章参照）。それから45年間、カレブは神さまのことばを信じて、ずっとチャンスを待ち続けてきたのです。カレブは「私は自分の神、主に従い通しました」と語ります。この「従い通す（ヘブライ語：מָלֵא אַחֲרֵי）」という言葉は、忠実で心が一貫していることを意味しています（民数記14:24参照）。また、申命記1:36でも、彼だけが「与えると誓った地を見られる」とはっきり書かれており、その忠実さは神さまご自身によって認められていました。
3．85歳になっても変わらない信仰（10–11節）
カレブはこう言いました。「私は今、85歳です。でも、まだ元気です。戦いにも行けます。」もちろん、若い頃のように剣を振るう体力がある、という意味ではないでしょう。しかし、年をとってもカレブの信仰は変わりませんでした。また、リーダーとしてやり残した最後の仕事を果たす責任感と判断力も、しっかり持ち続けていたのです。
4．カレブの願い「この山地をください」（12–15節）
カレブは、神さまが約束してくださったヘブロンという場所を自分のものにしたいと願いました。「主がともにいてくだされば、私はあの山に住む人々を追い出せます。」ヘブロンには強い敵であるアナク人（巨人族）が住んでいましたが、カレブは「神さまが約束してくれたなら、私はできる」と信じていました。
実はこの言葉は、とても大切なことを教えてくれます。神さまの約束があるからこそ、人は勇気をもって一歩を踏み出せるのです。また、神さまが主権をもって働いてくださるからこそ、人間も自分の責任を果たそうと前に進むことができるのです（ヨシュア1:3参照）。
ヨシュア記の著者は、はっきりとこう語ります。「彼がイスラエルの神、主に従い通したからである」（14:14）。つまり、相続地は神さまの約束として与えられたものですが、それを手に入れるためには、続けて従順に信頼し続けることが必要だったのです。
5．わたしたちの「ヘブロン」とは？
カレブは、神さまの約束を信じて「自分の領域」を勝ち取りました。では、私たちにとっての「相続地」や「ヘブロン」とはどこなのでしょうか。それはきっと、自分が大切にすべき場所や使命のことかもしれません。たとえば、家族の中での役割、教会での奉仕、神さまが与えてくださった夢などです。
大切なのは、カレブは「できない」とは言わなかったことです。神さまがともにいてくださるから「できる」と信じて歩みました。
信仰とは、「昔、神さまに出会って救われた」という過去で終わるものではありません。「今、ここで、もう一度信じて歩むこと」が大切なのです。カレブのように、私たちも神さまのことばに信頼して、今日も一歩ずつ進んでいきましょう。主の恵みが豊かにありますように。それでは、また明日。
Joshua 14: Caleb’s Faith and God’s Promise
1. God Decides the Land (Verses 1–5)
The people of Israel had entered the land of Canaan, just as God had promised. Now it was time to divide the land. Nine and a half tribes were going to receive their land. But how would they decide who gets which part?
They used something called “casting lots.” This means they trusted God to choose the best land for each tribe. They believed that God would make the right decision. So, they let Him decide.
2. Caleb Returns After 45 Years (Verses 6–9)
Then, a man named Caleb came forward. He had a special story. Long ago, Moses sent him to explore the land of Canaan. Most of the spies were afraid and said, “We can’t take this land.” But Caleb said, “We can! God will help us!” (See Numbers 13–14.)
Caleb believed God’s promise and waited 45 years. He never gave up. He said, “I followed the Lord my God with all my heart.” In Hebrew, this means he was loyal and faithful. God Himself said that Caleb would see the land (Deuteronomy 1:36). God was pleased with Caleb’s faith.
3. Still Strong at 85 (Verses 10–11)
Caleb said, “Now I am 85 years old. But I am still strong. I can still go to battle.” Maybe he wasn’t as fast as before, but his faith was still strong. He still had courage and wisdom. He was ready to finish the work God gave him.
4. “Give Me This Mountain” (Verses 12–15)
Caleb asked for a special place: Hebron. This was the land God had promised him. But there was a problem—strong enemies lived there. They were called the Anakim, and they were like giants.
Still, Caleb said, “If God is with me, I can drive them out.” He believed that God’s promise gave him the strength to move forward. He trusted God’s power and took responsibility to act.
The Bible says, “He followed the Lord, the God of Israel, completely” (verse 14). God gave the land, but Caleb had to keep trusting and obeying to receive it.
5. What Is Your “Hebron”?
Caleb believed God’s promise and claimed the land God gave him. What about us? What is our “Hebron”? It might be a calling, a dream, or a place where God wants us to serve—like our family, our church, or our community.
The important thing is this: Caleb didn’t say, “I can’t.” He said, “With God, I can.”
Faith is not just something from the past. It is something we live today. Like Caleb, we can trust God’s Word and take one step forward today.
