1．神さまはヨシュアにねぎらいの言葉をかけられた（13:1）
ヨシュアは年を重ね、長い戦いの働きを終えようとしていました。そのとき、神さまはヨシュアにこう語りかけます。「あなたは年をとり、老人になった。しかし、まだ占領すべき地がたくさん残っている」（13:1）。
この言葉には、ヨシュアへのねぎらいと、これからの希望の両方が込められています。神さまは、これまでのヨシュアの働きをしっかり認めておられました。そして、「まだ終わりではないよ」と、次のステップをやさしく示されたのです。
ただし、神さまはヨシュアに「もう一度戦いなさい」とは言いませんでした。その代わり、「土地を分けなさい」と新しい役割を与えられたのです（13:6）。これは、神さまが人の年齢や体の限界を理解してくださることを表しています。そして、その人に合った働きを用意してくださるのです。
2．神さまのご計画は世代を超えて続いていく（13:2–7）
神さまは、まだ占領されていない土地の名前をヨシュアに教えられました。ペリシテ人やゲシュル人など、これから取り組むべき課題も残っていました（13:2–6）。しかし、神さまは「わたしは彼らをイスラエルの子らの前から追い払う」と約束されます（13:6）。
つまり、神さまのご計画は今も続いているということです。モーセからヨシュアへ、そしてヨシュアから次の世代へと、神さまの働きは受け継がれていきます。
私たちも、「自分の働きは小さい」と感じることがあるかもしれません。しかし、神さまのご計画は一人の人間だけで終わるものではありません。私たち一人ひとりの働きは、神さまの大きな物語の中の大切な一部分です（1コリント3:6–9）。それぞれの役割がなければ、神さまのご計画は前に進みません。 3．土地の分配と神さまの約束（13:8–33） 13章の後半では、ヨルダン川の東側にある土地が、ルベン族、ガド族、マナセ族に分けられたことが書かれています。たくさんの地名が出てくるので、少し読みにくいかもしれません。しかし、これは単なる地理のリストではありません。
この記録は、神さまがアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに約束された土地を、本当にその子孫に与えられたという「証拠」なのです（創世記15:18–21、申命記3:12–17）。当時の人たちは、この地名を見て、「神さまは本当に約束を守ってくださった」と深く感じたことでしょう。
4．レビ人と神さまとの特別な関係（13:14, 33）
13章では、「レビ人には土地が与えられなかった」と何度も書かれています。なぜでしょうか。
それは、レビ人の相続地は「主ご自身」だからです（13:14, 33）。レビ人は、イスラエルの中で礼拝と教えの働きをする特別な役割を持っていました。彼らは全土に散らされ、どこにいても神さまを礼拝できるようにされたのです。
この仕組みは、新約聖書の教会にもつながっています。教会にはいろいろな形がありますが、すべての信じる人は「神に仕える祭司」として、同じ神さまに仕えています（1ペテロ2:9）。教会の一致は、建物や制度ではなく、「神の約束に生きる民」としての心のつながりによって守られているのです。
結び：あなたの役割も神さまのご計画の一部です
ヨシュア記13章は、年をとったヨシュアへのねぎらい、次の世代へのバトンの受け渡し、そして神さまの約束が本当に実現したことを記録しています。
私たちもまた、神さまのご計画の中で、それぞれの役割を与えられています。それが大きく見えても、小さく見えても、神さまにとってはすべてが大切なピースです。

Joshua 13: The Land That Remained and God’s Ongoing Plan
1. God Encouraged Joshua in His Old Age (13:1)
Joshua had become an old man. He had led many battles and served God faithfully for many years. Then God spoke to him:
“You are very old, and there is still much land to be taken” (Joshua 13:1).
This was not a complaint. It was a kind and gentle word. God was saying, “You have done well. But My plan is not finished yet.”
God did not tell Joshua to go back to war. Instead, He gave him a new job: to divide the land among the tribes (13:6). This shows us something important—God understands our limits. When we grow older or weaker, God still has a role for us. He gives us work that fits our season of life.
2. God’s Plan Continues Across Generations (13:2–7)
God showed Joshua the names of the places that had not yet been conquered. There were still enemies like the Philistines and the Geshurites (13:2–6). But God said:
“I Myself will drive them out before the Israelites” (13:6).
This means God’s plan was still moving forward. It started with Moses, continued with Joshua, and would go on with the next generation.
Sometimes we may feel like our work is small. But God’s plan is bigger than one person. Each of us is part of His great story (see 1 Corinthians 3:6–9). Without your part, the story would not be complete.
3. The Land Division and God’s Faithfulness (13:8–33)
The second half of Joshua 13 talks about how the land east of the Jordan River was given to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh. There are many place names, and it may be hard to read. But this list is not just geography.
It is proof that God kept His promise.
Long ago, God promised Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that their children would receive this land (Genesis 15:18–21; Deuteronomy 3:12–17). Now, that promise was coming true. For the people of Israel, each name on the list was a reminder: “God really did what He said He would do.”
4. The Levites and Their Special Role (13:14, 33)
In this chapter, we read that the Levites did not receive land like the other tribes. Why?
Because the Lord Himself was their inheritance (13:14, 33).
The Levites had a special job. They were responsible for worship and teaching. They lived all over Israel so that people everywhere could worship God.
This idea connects to the New Testament. Today, all believers are called “a royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9). We may belong to different churches or groups, but we all serve the same God. Our unity is not in buildings or systems—it is in our shared faith and God’s promises.
Final Thought: Your Role Is Part of God’s Plan
Joshua 13 is a chapter about transition. Joshua was old. His role was changing. But God’s plan was still moving forward.
You and I also have a place in God’s plan. Maybe your role feels small. Maybe it feels big. But in God’s eyes, every part matters.
So today, trust in God’s faithfulness. Walk faithfully in the place He has given you. He sees your work. He knows your heart. And He will give you the strength you need.
