さて、聖書を開いて、いきなりカタカナの名前がずらりと並んでいると、「これは退屈そうだな」と思ったこと、ありませんか？歴代誌第一章はまさにそんな章です。アダム、セツ、エノシュ…と続く名前のリスト。けれど、ここには驚くほど深い意味が隠されています。実は、この系図は、あなたと神との関係を語る大切なメッセージなのです。
- 歴代誌全体の構成
まず歴代誌全体の構成を簡単に説明しておきます。歴代誌は、旧約聖書の中でもイスラエルの歴史を振り返る重要な書物です。内容は大きく三つの部分に分けられます。
第一にアダムからイスラエルの部族時代までの系図やリスト（歴代誌第一1～10章）第二に、神殿礼拝制度の創始者であるダビデの生涯（歴代誌第一11～29章）、第三に神殿礼拝制度の完成者ソロモンとその後（歴代誌第二）の物語。
このように、歴代誌はただ昔の出来事を並べているのではなく「神の民」として歩んできた人々に焦点を当てています。特に北王国サマリヤではなく、ダビデやユダ族、そしてエルサレムを中心に描かれている点が、列王記との大きな違いです。
2．歴代誌第一章の全体像
それでは第1章から読んでまいりましょう。一章はイスラエルだけでなく、人類全体の歴史を振り返るところから始まります。その前半（1:1-27）は、アダムからイスラエル、つまりヤコブまでの系図が記されています。後半（1:35-54）は、ヤコブの兄エサウの子孫、つまりエドム人の系図が登場します。
一見、単なる血統記録に見えますが、実は「神を礼拝する民の範囲」を示す重要な神学的意図が込められています。
４．なぜアダムから始まるのか？
ここで注目したいのは、歴代誌の系図が人類最初の人アダムから始まっている点です。イスラエルの歴史を語るなら、普通はアブラハムから始めるはず。でも、歴代誌はアダムから始めます。それは、神の救いがイスラエルだけでなく、全人類に開かれていることを示しているのです。
実際、新約聖書のルカの福音書3章でも、イエスの系図がアダムまで遡っています。つまり、聖書は「すべての人は神に造られた者であり、神の救いの計画に含まれている」という普遍的なメッセージを伝えています。
５．異民族も神の計画の中に
さらに注目すべきは、ノアの子孫の中にエジプト人やペリシテ人が含まれていることです。ペリシテ人といえば、イスラエルの敵として有名ですが、彼らもアダムの子孫です。つまり、神の祝福はイスラエルだけでなく、すべての民族に開かれているというメッセージがあります。
6．捕囚帰還民へのメッセージ
歴代誌が記されたのは、イスラエルの人々がバビロン捕囚から解放され、エルサレムに戻ってきた時代でした。彼らは、戦争に敗れ、国を失い、アイデンティティを失った人々でした。そんな中で、この系図は「私たちは神に造られた民だ」という確信をもう一度呼び起こす大切な役割を果たしていました。また、神殿礼拝を中心とする信仰生活を回復していこうという励ましでもありました。
そして、これは信仰だけではなく、自分たちの国だけを大切にするのではなく、周りの人々も神の恵みに与る仲間であり、自分たちは神と周囲の人々をつなぐ役割があるという大切な自覚を与えました。本書は、これから再び「神の民」として再出発し、礼拝と国の再建に踏み出す人々に対して、イスラエルの歴史を通して道しるべを示しているのです。

単なる名前の羅列に見えるこの章は、実は「あなたはどこから来たのか」という問いに答えるのみならず、「あなたがどこへ向かうべきか」をも語っています。神の民の歴史は、あなたの歴史でもあります。民族や国境を超えて、あなた自身も神によって造られた者、神の民のひとりであることを覚えてください。そしてあなたもまた祝福の器となることを教えられるのです。

Season 6: 1 Chronicles Chapter 1 – The Beginning of the Worshiping People
Today we start reading 1 Chronicles. If you stopped reading before, this is a good time to start again. When you can read the whole Bible, you will see the big picture, and it will become more enjoyable.
Now, when you open the Bible and see many names in katakana, you might think, “This looks boring.” 1 Chronicles chapter 1 is exactly like that. Adam, Seth, Enosh… the list goes on. But these names have a very deep meaning. This genealogy tells an important message about your relationship with God.
1. The Structure of 1 Chronicles
First, let’s look at the structure of the whole book. 1 Chronicles is an important book in the Old Testament that looks back at Israel’s history. It has three main parts:
- From Adam to the time of Israel’s tribes (1 Chronicles 1–10)
- The life of David, who started the temple worship system (1 Chronicles 11–29)
- The life of Solomon, who completed the temple worship system, and what happened after (2 Chronicles)
This book does not only list history. It focuses on people who lived as “God’s people.” The main focus is not the northern kingdom of Samaria, but David, the tribe of Judah, and Jerusalem. This is very different from the book of Kings.
2. The Overview of Chapter 1
Chapter 1 does not start only with Israel. It begins with the history of all humanity.
- The first part (1:1–27) lists names from Adam to Israel (Jacob).
- The second part (1:35–54) lists the descendants of Esau, Jacob’s brother, called the Edomites.
It looks like a simple family record, but it has an important meaning: it shows the range of people who worship God.
3. Why Does It Start with Adam?
This is very important. If you talk about Israel’s history, you usually start with Abraham. But 1 Chronicles starts with Adam. Why? Because God’s salvation is not only for Israel. It is for all people.
The Gospel of Luke chapter 3 also goes back to Adam in Jesus’ genealogy. The Bible says: “All people were made by God, and all are part of God’s plan of salvation.” This is a universal message.
4. Other Nations Are in God’s Plan
Look at the descendants of Noah. Among them are Egyptians and Philistines. The Philistines were enemies of Israel. But they are also descendants of Adam. This means God’s blessing is open to all nations, not only Israel.
5. A Message for the People Who Returned from Exile
1 Chronicles was written after the people of Israel returned from Babylonian exile. They had lost their country and their identity. These genealogies helped them remember: “We are God’s people.”
It was not only about their own nation. Other nations also share God’s grace. Israel had an important role: to connect God and the nations. This book gave them guidance to rebuild worship and their community as God’s people.

This chapter looks like a list of names, but it answers an important question: “Where do you come from?” The history of God’s people is also your history. No matter your nation or background, you were made by God. You are part of God’s people. And you can be a channel of blessing.
