5章 ダビデ王となる
1．ダビデ王となる
ついにダビデはイスラエルの王となりました（1，2節）。ダビデは自分の根拠地ユダのみならずイスラエル全体からも王として認められるようになったのです。そこでまずダビデがしたことは、エルサレムに来て、「シオンの要害を攻め取った」ことです。戦略的な町エルサレムは、長くイスラエルの強敵エブス人の支配下にありました。ベニヤミン族は、彼らと平和共存する形でエルサレムに定住したのです（士師1:8-21）。しかし、ダビデはそれを許さず、まず、この強敵を追い払いました。こうして、ダビデの名声は高まっていきます（10節）。こうしてダビデは7年6か月、都としたヘブロンからエルサレムへと移動し、ダビデの33年間の統治が始まるのです。
2．新たな挑戦
さて、そのように力を増し加えるダビデでしたが、ダビデはさらに新しい挑戦を受けていきます。かつてサウルを殺したペリシテ人が、今度はダビデを仕留めようと攻めてきたのです。彼らは「レファイムの谷間に展開した」（18節）と言います。つまりまさにエルサレムの城壁の下、ダビデを潰す勢いでやってきたのでした。彼の王権が確立したばかりであるというのに、これを叩き潰そうとするペリシテの脅威が迫ったのです。
そこで、ダビデは「主に伺って言った」（19，23節）とあります。今の私たちのあり方からすればそれは祈りそのものでしょう。ダビデはすぐにひざまずいて、神の知恵と助けを祈り求めました。神は答えられています「上れ。わたしは必ず、ペリシテ人をあなたの手に渡すから。」（19節）と。ダビデが上ると、「主は、水が破れ出るように、私の前で私の敵を破られた。」と言います。ダビデはそこをベアル・ペラツィムと呼びました。つまり、「突破の主」という意味です。突破口を開くのは、まさに神ご自身であるということでしょう。水が破れ出るように、私たちを助けてくださる神がいる、その神を呼び求めてダビデは勝利したのです。
しかしながら、ペリシテ人もそう易々とは撃退されません。彼らは再び攻めてきて、レファイムの谷間に展開した、と言います。ダビデは再び神に祈りました。初め「上れ」と命じられた主は、次には「上っていくな」と命じられます。つまり神は一度目と二度目とでは全く逆に答えられました。もしダビデが一度祈ったからもう十分、と同じ戦略を用いたとしたら、その結果は散々たるものであったことでしょう。昨日の勝利は今日の勝利を保証するものではありません。私たちの勝利は、日々、一瞬一瞬、神の知恵と助けを頂くことによるものです。
3．日々、一瞬一瞬主に寄り頼む
確かに、人生勝利の秘訣は、日々、一瞬一瞬神に寄り頼んで生きることにあるのでしょう。というのも、私たちが信仰を持った時に、私たちは新生したとされますが、私たちの罪の性質は頑なに残っているものです。そして、ペリシテ人が、まさにダビデの足下に展開したように、私たちの古い罪の性質は、私たちの骨や肉を蝕んでいるもので、それはそう易々とは克服されにくいものなのです。
そのような罪の性質に深く絡めとられている現実にあって、私たちが人生における霊的な勝利を得るためには、日々、一瞬一瞬、神と共に生きること以外に道はありません。ことある毎に、祈り、神の助けを求め、神が「上れ」と命じられるのなら「上る」、「下れ」と命じられるなら「下る」そのような霊的敏感さの中に生きることなのです。ヨブは言いました。「神はある方法で語り、また、ほかの方法で語られるが、人はそれに気づかない」（ヨブ33:14）。大切なことは、霊的な感性を研ぎ澄ますこと、神が聖書において語られていることをよくよく理解し、見えていなかったことが見えてくるような歩みをすることでしょう。日々、一瞬一瞬神に祈り、神の力を受け、神と共に立つ歩みをさせてまいりましょう。日も、よき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 5 Become King David
- 1. Become King David
Finally David became king of Israel (ver. 1 and 2). David was recognized as king not only by his base, Judah, but by Israel as a whole. The first thing David did there was to come to Jerusalem and “attack Zion’s fortress.” The strategic city of Jerusalem has long been under the control of Israel’s powerful Jebusites. The Tribe of Benjamin settled in Jerusalem in a peaceful coexistence with them (Judge 1:8-21). However, David did not allow it, and first ousted this powerful enemy. In this way, David’s fame grows (ver.10). Thus, for seven years and six months, David moved from his capital, Hebron, to Jerusalem, and David’s 33-year reign began.
- New challenge
Well, it was David who added power like that, but David will take on new challenges. The Philistines who once killed Saul are now attacking to kill David. They say, “spread out in the Valley of Rephaim” (ver. 18). In other words, it came just under the walls of Jerusalem with the momentum to crush David. Even though his kingship had just been established, the Philistine threat to crush it was imminent.
So David says, “inquired of the Lord “Shall I”” (ver. 19, 23). From the point of view of us now, it is prayer itself. David immediately knelt down and prayed for God’s wisdom and help. God answered, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistine into your hands” (ver. 19). When David goes up, he says, “As waters break out, the Lord has broken out against my enemies before me.” David called it Baal Perazim. In other words, it means “the master of breakthrough”. It is God himself who opens the breakthrough. There is a god who can help us as the water bursts, and David has won in call for that god.
However, the Philistines are not so easily repelled. They say they attacked again and unfolded into the valley of Rephaim. David prayed to God again. The Lord, who was first commanded to “go up,” is then commanded to “do not go up.” In other words, God answered the first time and the second time in the opposite way. Had David used the same strategy as once prayed and enough, the results would have been disastrous. Yesterday’s victory does not guarantee today’s victory. Our victory is due to the wisdom and help of God every day, every moment.
- 3. Every day, every moment, every moment, I ask the Lord
Certainly, the secret to victory in life is to rely on God every moment to live. For when we have faith, we are said to have been reborn, but the nature of our sins remains stubborn. And, just as the Philistines unfolded at David’s feet, the nature of our old sins is eroding our bones and flesh, which is not so easily overcome.
In the reality of being deeply entwined with the nature of such sins, the only way for us to gain a spiritual victory in life is to live with God day by moment. We pray, seek God’s help, and live in such spiritual sensitivities as “up” if God commands us to “go up” and “down” if God commands us to “go down.” That’s what it is. Job said. “For God does speak – now one way, now another – though no one perceives it” (Job 33:14). The important thing is to sharpen your spiritual sensibilities, to understand what God is saying in the Bible, and to take steps to see what you couldn’t see. Let’s pray to God every moment, receive the power of God, and let us walk with God. I pray that the day will be a good day.
