1．エドムに対する裁き
35章は、イスラエルの隣国エドムに対する裁きが語られます。エドムは、セイルの山とも呼ばれています。そこは、死海からアカバ湾に至る山岳地帯で、赤茶けた岩だらけの山肌に囲まれたイメージの場所、元々ホリ人という先住民が住んでいました。そして、エサウとその子孫、つまり聖書でエドム人と呼ばれるようになった民族の領地となった場所です（創世記25:25）。また歴史的には、ナバティア王国が栄えた地域で、古代王国の遺跡の数々が残されており、映画「最後の聖戦」の撮影舞台ともなったペトラは、その代表的な場所です。訪れたことのある方もおられるでしょう。最近は鉄砲水で、観光客が犠牲になったニュースも流れた場所です。
それはさておき、エドムに対する裁きのことば、イスラエルの回復を語り始めた文脈からすると、何か非常に唐突です。本来ならば、イスラエル周辺諸国への裁きが語られた25-32章の間に位置するものではないか、と思わされるところです。
しかし、あえてその文脈的な意図を考えると、これが回復のメッセージを、実に豊かな内容にしていることを思わされます。つまり、先の34章でエゼキエルは、イスラエルが回復されるために「悪い獣」を取り除くと語りました。それは、弱い立場にある者から搾取する者を取り除くことを言っていますが、その具体的な例をここにあげている、と言えるのではないでしょうか。
2．やつにも同じようにする
もともとイスラエルを憎んでいたエドムは、エルサレムがバビロンに滅ぼされた時に、これをことさら喜びました。そしてイスラエル人が捕虜となって連れ去られた後、その地を自分たちのものにする絶好の機会が訪れたと考えました。戦争で負けたイスラエル人に、何の遠慮があるのか、これはいいチャンス、一切合切、自分のものにしよう、と言うわけです。
しかし、神は、それをお許しにならないわけです。10節「しかし、そこには主がいたのである」と語られます。この世には正しいことを行われる神がいて、しっかりその悪賢い計略を見ていた、と言うわけです。先の33章では「言っている」ということばが繰り返され、神が人々の日常の会話をしっかり耳にしていることが語られていましたが、この35章では、神が、私たちの生活の場にいて、私たちのすることなすことのすべてを、しっかり見ておられると語ります。神は、人の表情の微妙な変化すら見逃すお方ではありません。
ですから人の不運に付け込み、何食わぬ顔で、何もかも奪い取ろうとする者が現れたとしても、慌ててはいけません。あるいは、そうされて、取り返しのつかない事態になっても、なんてことだとほぞを噛んで悲しんではなりません。神がそれをしっかり見ておられるからです。11節、神は言います。「わたしは生きている。わたしは必ずおまえを罰する。おまえが憎しみから彼らに対してふるまったのと、同じほどの怒りとねたみをもって。わたしがあなたを裁くときは、あなただけではない、必ずあなたのその弱さに付け込んだものも裁くのだ、と言うわけです。15節、神は言います。「おまえは、イスラエルの家のゆずりの地が荒れ果てたことを喜んだが、わたしはおまえに同じようにする。おまえは荒れ果て、エドム全体もそうなる。そのとき、彼らは、わたしが主であることを知る」。
神が回復させると言うからには、ここまでやってもらわなくては、ということではないでしょうか？ですから、神を信じ従う者ならば、どんなに不本意に、落胆させられるようなことがあっても、嘆かず、神にありのまま、その不本意さを訴え委ねることです。心を腐らせてはなりません。泰然自若として、一切を神の正しい裁きに委ねることです。人の弱さに乗じて悪さをする者が現たなら、「あなたも同じ目に合う。神は生きておられる」と、静かにその者の視線を受け止めることです。そして祈ることでしょう。「主よ、彼らをお赦しください。彼らは自分たちが何をしているのかわからないのです」と。心配しないことです。神は、あなたに損失があれば、その損失をも償ってくださるお方だからです（ヨエル2:25）。神の深き慈愛に今日も信頼し、心配事の一切を委ねてまいりましょう。では今日も良き一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 35 Prophecy against Edom
1. judgment against Edom
Chapter 35 is about judgment against Edom, Israel’s neighbor. Edom is also called the mountain of Seir. It is a mountainous region from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba, surrounded by reddish-brown, rocky mountainsides, and was originally inhabited by a native people called the Horians. It was then the domain of Esau and his descendants, the people who came to be known in the Bible as the Edomites (Genesis 25:25). Historically, the Nabatian Kingdom flourished in this area, and many ruins of the ancient kingdom remain, including Petra, where the movie “The Last Crusade” was filmed. Some of you may have visited there before. Recently, the place was in the news for a flash flood that claimed the lives of some tourists.
Aside from that, in the context of the words of judgment against Edom and the beginning of the story of Israel’s restoration, something is very abrupt. One would think that it would originally be placed between chapters 25-32, where the judgment on the nations surrounding Israel was spoken.
However, when one considers the contextual intent, one is reminded that this is what makes the message of restoration so rich in content. In chapter 34, Ezekiel spoke of removing the “wicked beast” in order for Israel to be restored. He is talking about removing those who exploit the weak, and I think we can say that he is giving us a concrete example of this here.
2. doing the same to him
Edom, who originally hated Israel, rejoiced when Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylon. After the Israelites were taken away as captives, he saw a great opportunity to take the land for himself. They said, “Why should the Israelites, who lost the war, have any reservations?
But God would not allow it, and verse 10 tells us, “But there was the Lord. There is a God who does what is right in the world, and He is watching over the devious schemes of His people. In chapter 33, the word “saying” was repeated, indicating that God is listening closely to people’s daily conversations. God does not miss even the slightest change in a person’s facial expression.
Therefore, we should not panic when someone takes advantage of our misfortune and tries to take everything from us with an innocent look on their face. Or, if they do, and the situation is irreversible, do not be saddened by the thought of what has happened. In verse 11, God says, “I live. I live. I will surely punish you. I will surely punish you with the same anger and envy with which you have acted toward them out of hatred. In verse 15, God says, “You have wronged the house of Israel,” and in verse 16, God says, “You have wronged the house of Israel. You rejoiced that the land that belonged to the house of Israel was desolate, and I will do the same to you. You will be desolate, and so will all Edom. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
If God says he will restore them, doesn’t that mean he has to go so far? Therefore, if you are a believer and follower of God, no matter how unwilling and discouraged you may be, do not lament, but complain to God about your unwillingness as it is and surrender it to Him. Do not allow your heart to become corrupt. Be at peace and submit everything to God’s righteous judgment. If someone takes advantage of your weakness to do you wrong, say quietly, “You will suffer the same thing. God is alive. And you pray, “Lord, forgive them. “Lord, forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing. Do not worry. God is the One who will pay for your losses, if you have any!(Joel 2:25). Let us trust in God’s deep mercy today, and let us surrender all of our worries. I pray that today will be another good day.
