2列王記1章　アハズヤの死

1．病に陥ったアハズヤ

アハブの子、アハズヤが病気になりました。王は、エクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに伺いを立てるため、使者を遣わします。サマリヤからエクロンまで約72キロ、当時は、徒歩で約2日の道のりでしたが、使者は直ぐに戻って来て、神のことばを伝えます。「アハズヤは治らない。必ず死ぬ。」アハズヤは、そのように語る人物は、一体誰であるのかを確かめています。「毛皮を着て、腰に帯を締めていた人」アハズヤは、父アハブが何度も接触していたエリヤのことを思い出したのでしょう。それは「ティシュベ人エリヤだ」と彼は悟るのです。

彼は伝えられました。「あなたがたがエクロンの神、バアル・ゼブブに伺いを立てに行くのは、イスラエルに神がいないためか。」（3節）窮地にあって、私たちの足と心はどこへ向くものでしょう。

話題が変わりますが、キリスト者の間でなされる牧会カウンセリングと、世俗の世界でなされる一般カウンセリングの違いは、明らかです。前者は、カウンセラーとクライエントの間に、神の御言葉に対する信頼、神のみことばによる解決を願う思いがなければ、成り立たないものです。あくまでも人間の諸問題における究極の解決の力は神にある、と考えるからです。カウンセラーもクライエントも、神の解決を意識して、神のみこころを一緒に探っていくのです。しかし、一般のカウンセリングで、神の存在が意識されることがありません。むしろ、カウンセラーの人格、専門性、そしてカウンセラーとクライエントの人間関係が重要になるのです。私は、一般のカウンセリングよりも牧会カウンセリングの方が良いのだ、と言っているわけではありません。むしろ必要に応じて、それらは使い分けられなくてはならないものです。そして神を信じるキリスト者であるなら、神にこそ解決の力があるとする牧会カウンセリングの特殊性を理解することです。それを一般のカウンセリングと同じようなものにしてはなりません。神以上に、牧師の人格や専門性に、期待を寄せるようであってはいけない、ということです。また、神以外に解決の道はないならば、向かうべきところは、人間が作った偶像ではなく、目に見えない、天地の作り主、まことの神です（使徒17:28、29）。

2．神による解決

アハズヤは、エリヤに50人隊の長を遣わしました。自分にとって耳障りの悪いことを語るエリヤの口を封じたかったのでしょう。しかし、神は、エリヤを捕まえようと送られた二人の50人隊の長を火で焼き殺されました。エリヤの神は作り物の偶像ではないということです。

大切なのは、そのように守られたエリヤも、私たちと同じような普通の人であった、と新約聖書に語られていることです。彼は、旧約時代においては「神の人」と呼ばれましたが（9-13節）、新約時代の初代教会の指導者には、私たちと同じ人間であったと認識されていました（ヤコブ5:17）。つまり、私たちもまた、エリヤと同じような神の守りと神の力の中に生きることができる、ということです。

全て良きものは上から来る、この確信に立って私たちは歩みたいものです。神は、昔も今も変わることはありません。神にこそ究極的な解決があるのであって、私たち「普通の人」を「神の人」と呼ばわせる力も神から来るのです。聖書の神は、日本の神ではなくイスラエルの神ではないか、あるいは西洋の神ではないか、と思われる方もいるかもしれません。しかし、まことの唯一の神に、イスラエルの神もアメリカの神もいません。目に見えないまことの神は、天地を造られた神、昔も今も変わりなく、全世界を支配しておられる神です。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

1. Ahaziah who fell ill

Ahab’s child, Ahaziah, became ill. The king sends a messenger to visit Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron. It was about 72 km from Samaria to Ekron, and at that time it was about two days on foot, but the messenger will soon come back and tell the word of God. “You will certainly die!” Ahaziah is ascertaining who the person says so. “a man with a garment of hair and with a leather belt round his waist.” Ahaziah may have remembered Elijah, whom his father Ahab had been in contact with many times. He realizes that it is “Elijah the Tishbite.”

He was told. “Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending men to consult Baal Zebub, the God of Ekron?” (Ver. 3) Where do our feet and hearts go in a difficult situation?

On a different topic, the difference between pastoral counseling among Christians and general counseling in the secular world is clear. The former would not be possible without the counselor and the client wishing for trust in God’s Word and a solution in God’s Word. This is because we believe that God has the ultimate power to solve human problems. Both the counselor and the client are conscious of God’s solution and explore God’s will together. However, in general counseling, the existence of God is not conscious. Rather, the counselor’s personality, expertise, and the relationship between the counselor and the client are important. I’m not saying that pastoral counseling is better than general counseling. Rather, they must be used properly as needed. And if you are a Christian who believes in God, you need to understand the peculiarities of pastoral counseling that God has the power to solve. It should not be similar to general counseling. It means that we should not expect more from the pastor’s personality and expertise than God. Also, if there is no solution other than God, the destination is not the idols made by humans, but the invisible, creator of heaven and earth, the true God (Acts 17:28, 29).

2. God’s solution

Ahaziah sent Elijah the head of a 50-member squad. He probably wanted to shut Elijah’s mouth, telling him what was offensive to him. However, God burned down the two 50-man leaders who were sent to capture Elijah. The God of Elijah is not a fake idol.

What is important is that the New Testament tells us that Elijah, who was so protected, was an ordinary person like us. He was called the “Man of God” in the Old Testament (ver. 9-13), but was recognized by the leaders of the Early Christianity in the New Testament as being the same human being as us （Jacob 5:17). In other words, we too can live in the same protection and power of God as Elijah.

All good things come from above, we want to walk with this conviction. God has never changed. God has the ultimate solution, and the power to call us “ordinary people” “people of God” also comes from God. Some may wonder if the Bible God is not a Japanese god but an Israeli god, or a Western god. But the only true God is neither the god of Israel nor the god of America. The invisible true God is the God who created the heavens and the earth, the God who has ruled the whole world as it used to be. I pray for a good day today.
