1．三つの災い（9:1-28）
非常に重い疫病、うみの出る腫れもの、激しい雹、と三つの災いが続きます。これまでの災いと異なり、疫病の災いではモーセとアロンを介さずに神ご自身が実行者となっています。また、その災いは、人を区別し、エジプト人の所有物のみに及ぼされました。「馬、ろば、らくだ、牛、羊」は、エジプト人にとって神聖な動物であるのみならず大切な財産でした。しかしこの災いによってエジプト人の家畜が死に絶えてしまいます。次の章に記録されたいなごによる作物の被害を考え合わせれば、これらはエジプトを荒れ廃らせ、エジプト人の財産を奪うのみならず、彼らの生活を困窮させるものでした。つまり、強制労働によってエジプト人がイスラエル人から搾取したことへの報復だったのです。
問題は、これらの災いが指導者の強情さや愚かさの故にもたらされたことです。どんな組織もそうかもしれませんが、上に立つ長がどのような器量を持つ人間か、それが組織の運命を左右するものでしょう。27節「今度は、私が間違っていた。主が正しく、私と私の民が悪かった」ファラオが自分の誤りを認めています。ただ、モーセはこの悔い改めが一時的なものであることをよく理解していました（30節）。そしてこの驚くべきファラオの頑なさが、神の考えあっての神のしわざであることも心得ていました（9:12）。つまりファラオのそのような頑なさを用いて、神は、ご自身の存在とその力を、人々によく理解させようとした、と言えるでしょう。
実際のところ神は、このようなファラオの愚かさのために、関係のない庶民までが巻き添えを食って苦しめられることなど望んではおられないのです。ですから、もはや、ファラオが悔い改めるなら、それが一時的なものであるとしても、即座に、その災いを止められるのです。神は愛の方です。愛を持って正しいことを行われるお方であって、感情に流されるままに人を懲らしめるような方ではないのです。
- 神に助けられるモーセ（9:29-35）
神は、モーセが前面に立つようにされました。初めはアロンがあなたと共にいるとモーセではなく、アロンを前面に出しておられましたが、今やファラオの前に立ち、ファラオに答えるのは神の代理者モーセ自身です。つまり神ご自身とファラオの対決です。そして、口下手で言葉の人ではないと語っていたモーセは、いつの間にかファラオの前で、巧みに神の命を伝え、ファラオの問題を指摘するものとなっているのです。モーセはこのように自分が活躍するなど夢にも思わなかったことでしょう。
しかし本来、神に用いられるというのはそういうことです。神は、私たちの限界を超えた働きを与えられるお方です。私たちが、自分たちの能力でできるようなことをするのなら、わざわざ神の手を煩わすまでもありません。むしろ私たちに到底できそうもないことを、させてくださるところに、神の存在もはっきりと証しされるのです。
実際、新約聖書には聖霊の賜物という考え方が出てきます。神は、ご自分を信じる者に、ご自身の働きを進めさせるために、親譲りの才能ではなく、それこそ神譲りの賜物を与えてくださる、というものです。しかし、これを意識している信仰者は少ないものです。音楽ができる人は、その才能を神の賜物と考えてしまいます。そして何もできない人は、自分には才能がない、つまり神の賜物もないと考えてしまいます。
そうではないのです。信仰を持つことによって、新しい人生を踏み出す時に、神が上から与えてくださる新しい能力、才能というものがあるのです。神を信じながら、神を味わうことのない人生ほど、つまらない人生はありません。
聖書を読み、神がみこころとして示してくださることを受け止め従うならば、神が私たちを予期せぬ歩みへと導いてくださることは確かです。神に従うというのは大きく派手なことではありません。それは、毎朝、神の前に出て、神に聴き、人々のために祈る、それこそ隠れた地味なものであったりします。しかし、それらを着実に積み重ねていくところに、豊かな人生の働きも備えられるのです。神の祝福がありますように。チャンネル登録、メンバー登録、よろしくお願いいたします。ではまた明日このチャンネルでお会いしましょう。
Chapter 9: Negotiations with Pharaoh (Disasters: ⑤ Plague, ⑥ Boils, ⑦ Hail/Servants beware of hail) - Three Plagues (9:1-28)
Three plagues follow: a very severe plague, boils that produce pus, and severe hail. Unlike the previous plagues, the plague plague is carried out by God himself, without the intervention of Moses and Aaron. In addition, this plague distinguishes between people and only affects Egyptian property. “Horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, and sheep” were not only sacred animals to the Egyptians, but also important assets. However, this plague kills all of the Egyptians’ livestock. Considering the damage to crops caused by locusts recorded in the next chapter, these plagues not only devastated Egypt and took away the Egyptians’ property, but also made their lives difficult. In other words, it was retaliation for the Egyptians’ exploitation of the Israelites through forced labor. The problem is that these disasters were brought about by the stubbornness and foolishness of the leaders. This may be true of any organization, but the fate of the organization depends on the quality of the person at the top. Verse 27: “Now I was wrong; the Lord was right, and I and my people were wrong.” Pharaoh admits his mistake. However, Moses well understood that this repentance was temporary (verse 30). He also understood that Pharaoh’s amazing stubbornness was God’s work with God’s thoughts in mind (9:12). In other words, it can be said that God used Pharaoh’s stubbornness to make the people better understand His existence and His power.
In fact, God does not want the common people to suffer as collateral damage because of Pharaoh’s folly. Therefore, if Pharaoh repents, even if it is only temporarily, God will stop the plague immediately. God is the One of love. He does what is right with love, and He is not the one who punishes people according to their emotions. - Moses Helped by God (9:29-35)
God made Moses take the lead. At first, God put Aaron in the forefront, not Moses, saying, “Aaron is with you.” But now it is Moses, God’s representative, who stands before Pharaoh and answers him. In other words, it is a showdown between God Himself and Pharaoh. And Moses, who said he was not good at speaking and was not a man of words, has become the one who skillfully conveys God’s commands and points out Pharaoh’s problems in front of Pharaoh. Moses would never have dreamed that he would be so active.
But that is what it means to be used by God. God is the one who gives us work that goes beyond our limits. If we can do things that we can do with our own abilities, there is no need to bother God. Rather, the fact that God allows us to do things that we cannot possibly do is a clear testimony of God’s existence.
In fact, the idea of the gift of the Holy Spirit appears in the New Testament. God gives those who believe in Him gifts, not just talents inherited from their parents, to advance His work. However, few believers are aware of this. People who can play music think that their talent is a gift from God. And those who can’t do anything think that they have no talent, that is, they have no gifts from God.
This is not the case. When you step into a new life with faith, God gives you new abilities and talents from above. There is no more boring life than a life in which you believe in God but do not enjoy Him.
If we read the Bible, accept and follow what God shows us as His will, it is certain that God will lead us to unexpected steps. Obeying God is not something big and flashy. It is something hidden and modest, such as coming before God every morning, listening to God, and praying for people.
