聖書を読むと、「これは昔の話だから、自分には関係がない」と感じることがあります。しかしこの章に書かれているバラムの言葉は、実は私たちの人生にとても深い関係があります。さっそく読んでみましょう。
1．バラムの三度目の託宣（23:27-24:13）
まず登場するのは、モアブの王バラク。イスラエルの民が迫って来るのを恐れたバラクは、占い師バラムに呪いをかけるように頼みます。ところがバラムは、呪うどころか、神のことばを受け取って、イスラエルの民を祝福してしまうのです。それは、一度、二度と繰り返されました。そこでバラクは「今度こそ」と別の場所に連れて行きます。それが「ペオルの頂上」と呼ばれる、イスラエルの宿営全体が見渡せる場所でした。結果はどうだったでしょうか？ここでもバラムが語ったのは、呪いではなく祝福の言葉でした。それは次のようなメッセージでした。
まず、バラムはイスラエルの民は「川のほとりの園や水辺の杉の木のよう」に繁栄するでしょう、と宣言します。この比喩は、私たちが人生の中で、安定と潤いを見つけることができることを教えています。
またバラムは、「手桶からは水が溢れる」と宣言します。これはイスラエルの民が増え広がり、豊かな祝福を受けることを表現したものです。私たちの人生にも豊かさが生じることを教えています。さらに、「アガグ」という名前は、アマレクの王を指す代名詞として使われ、アマレクに対するイスラエルの勝利を予言します（出エジプト記17:14–16）。神を信じる者には勝利があるということでしょう。
最後に、バラムは、「あなたを祝福する者は祝福され、あなたを呪う者は呪われる」と創世記12:3にある、アブラハムに対する神の約束のことばを繰り返します。神の約束は揺るぎないことを強調しています。たとえ人生に嵐が訪れても、私たちが神の祝福の中にいるなら、恐れる必要はないことを教えてくれます。
私たちの日々の暮らしには、心が折れそうになることやネガティブなことばに傷つくことがあるものです。しかし、神の祝福はそれ以上に確かなものです。あなたのために、イエスが十字架でご自分を犠牲にし、神の救いと祝福を提供してくださっていることは確かなことです。その恵みを覚えて、どんな状況でも、神の約束を信頼し続け、祈りと信仰を持って歩むことが大切です。その時、神の「水があふれるような祝福」によって新しい道が開かれるでしょう。
2．バラムの四度目の託宣（24:14-19）
15節からは、バラムの最後の託宣、四度目の祝福のことばです。それは、イスラエルの未来とバラクへの警告を語っています（14節）。ここにはメシヤ的な預言も隠されています。
つまり、17節に「ヤコブから一つの星が進み出る」とありますが、ここでの「星」は、未来の王を象徴しています。この王は、モアブ、セツ、エドム、などの近隣諸国を征服すると語られ、実際の歴史では、ヒゼキヤの時代にアマレクが征服されたこと（1歴代4:43）に当たるのではないかと考えられました。しかし、エレミヤ48:45やダニエル11:30、また、王の詩篇110篇からもわかるように、それは、歴史的には完全に成就しておらず、最終的にはキリストによって罪と死が滅ぼされた時に成就したと考えられるようになりました。ですから新約聖書でもこの預言が暗示的に使われています（マタイ2:1-10、黙示録22:16）。
こうして読むと、この託宣が、私たちに語り掛けているのは、最終的な歴史の支配者は神であるということです。どんな時代のどんな強国も、神が介入されるなら滅ぼされることは避けられません。この世の支配者や状況ではなく、まことの王であるキリストを恐れ、信頼するべきだとなるのです。
確かに、キリストは、暗闇を照らす星のように、私たちの人生に方向性を与えてくださいます。私たちがどんな迷いや苦しみの中にあっても、キリストの光は私たちを照らし続けます。人生が混乱しているように思えるときでも、キリストを信じることで、私たちは希望の光を見ることができます。
バラムの言葉を通して、神は私たちにこう語りかけています。「たとえあなたが無力だと感じても、私は共にいる。そして祝福を与える」今、あなたが直面している問題や不安はどのようなものですか？神は、それらの状況の中にあっても、あなたに目を向けておられます。そして、あなたの歩む道を導こうとされています。一緒に聖書を読みながら、あなたの人生にどう神の祝福が現れるかを見つけていきましょう。どんなに小さな一歩でも、それは新しい可能性の始まりです。では、あなたとあなたの教会の上に主の祝福が満ち溢れますように。また明日このチャンネルでお会いしましょう。
Numbers 24: Balaam’s Prophetic Words (3rd and 4th)
When reading the Bible, you might feel like the stories are distant and unrelated to your life. But the words of Balaam in Numbers 24 are deeply connected to us, offering lessons and hope for our everyday lives. Let’s explore together!
１. Balaam’s Third Oracle (Numbers 23:27–24:13)
This story begins with Balak, the king of Moab. He was terrified because the Israelites were approaching his land. Balak hired Balaam, a fortune-teller, to curse Israel. But instead of cursing, Balaam received words from God and blessed Israel—not once, but twice! Frustrated, Balak tried one last time, taking Balaam to “the heights of Peor,” a place where he could see the entire camp of Israel.
What happened next? Balaam didn’t curse Israel. He blessed them again! Here’s the message he gave:
“Like gardens beside a river, like cedars beside the water.”
Balaam described the Israelites as flourishing, stable, and strong—like thriving trees planted near water. This image teaches us that we can find stability and refreshment in our own lives with God’s blessings.
“Buckets will overflow with water.”
Balaam declared that the Israelites would grow and expand, full of richness and blessings. This reminds us that our lives can also overflow with God’s abundance.
Victory over enemies:
Balaam foretold Israel’s victory over “Agag,” a symbolic name for the kings of the Amalekites (Exodus 17:14–16). This victory is a reminder that those who trust God will overcome challenges.
God’s unshakable promise:
Finally, Balaam repeated the words from Genesis 12:3: “Those who bless you will be blessed, and those who curse you will be cursed.” No matter the storms of life, God’s blessing is stronger than any fear.
How does this relate to us?
In daily life, we face moments of discouragement or hurtful words that bring us down. Yet God’s blessings are greater than anything we face. Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, God has provided salvation and blessings for you. Even in difficult situations, trust in God’s promises, pray, and hold onto your faith. Then you’ll see new opportunities and paths open through God’s overflowing blessings.
- Balaam’s Fourth Oracle (Numbers 24:14–19)
Starting in verse 15, Balaam gives his final message—a prophecy of Israel’s future and a warning to Balak. Hidden within these words is a messianic prophecy.
“A star will come out of Jacob.”
The star symbolizes a future king. Balaam foretold this king would conquer neighboring nations like Moab, Edom, and others. Historically, this prophecy partially came true during King Hezekiah’s reign, when Amalek was defeated (1 Chronicles 4:43). However, the prophecy was not completely fulfilled.
Ultimate fulfillment in Christ:
Later passages in the Bible, such as Jeremiah 48:45, Daniel 11:30, and Psalm 110, point to this prophecy as being ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ. The New Testament also hints at this prophecy (Matthew 2:1–10, Revelation 22:16), showing that Christ has overcome sin and death.
How does this relate to us?
Balaam’s words remind us that God is the ultimate ruler of history. No kingdom or leader is greater than Him. In moments of uncertainty or difficulty, trust in Christ—the true king. Like a star shining in the darkness, He provides direction and hope for your life. Even when life feels confusing, faith in Christ allows you to see the light of hope and walk toward it. - God’s Promise for You
Through Balaam’s words, God speaks directly to us: “Even if you feel weak and helpless, I am with you. I will bless you.” What struggles or fears are you facing right now? God sees you and wants to guide your path.
