1．自然を通して神を知る
19篇の背景はよくわかっていません。その内容は普遍的で、大自然の中で神を思い、人の小ささを思う、そして罪人が神に罪赦されてある祝福を思う、その大切を教えられる一篇です。
神を知る手段は大きく二つあると言われます。一つは神が造られた被造物、つまり自然を通して知る。そしてもう一つは神のことばである聖書を通して知るのです。自然はそれ自体、神の栄光を物語る、神の傑作です。大空も山も、海も、神がおられることを昼も夜も静かに証しています（2-4節）。それらはしばしば神々しく見えますが、神ではありません。これをお造りになった神の存在を証ししているのです。
例えば当時も、太陽を神として崇める信仰がありました。しかし、太陽もまた神が造られたものです。太陽は、神に与えられた秩序の中で、天の軌道を神々しく闊歩し、光り輝いているだけです（5節）。自然を見る時に、それらがいかに人の心を驚かせ、遜らせることがあっても、自然は神に代るものではないのです。あらゆる被造物をお造りになった神にこそ、私たちは目を向けなくてはなりません。使徒パウロも引用して語ります。「その響きは全地に、そのことばは、地の果てまで届いた」と（ローマ10:18）。
2．聖書を通して神を知る
第二に、私たちは聖書を通して神を知ります（7節～）。神のおきては完全無欠であり、私たちを守り、賢くし、喜びと光を与えます。聖書はただ神について語っているわけではありません。聖書は神のことばを伝え、魂を生き返らせ、渇ききった心にいのちを注ぎ込むものです。イエスも言われました。「だれでも渇いているなら、わたしのもとに来て飲みなさい。わたしを信じる者は、聖書が言っているとおりに、その人の心の奥底から、生ける水の川が流れ出るようになる。」（ヨハネ7:37,38）誰でも、聖書を読む者は、このことばの祝福を実際に味わうべきです。聖書は、主の「おしえ」「証し」「戒め」「仰せ」「さばき」であり、私たちの「たましいを生き返らせ」「賢く」し、「心を喜ばせ」「人の目を明るく」し、「慕わしく」「甘い」、つまり私たちの心に影響を及ぼすものです。また神のことばは完全で確かで、正しく、聖く、とこしえまでも変わらない、ものです。使徒ヨハネは、黙示録19:2で「神のさばきは真実で、正しい」とこのことばを引用しています。来る未来に、新しい天と新しい地の到来を確信しうるのも、確かで、いのちとさばきをもたらす神のことばの真実さを覚えればこそです。
3．神に近付く人生
問題は、そのような素晴らしい神のみことばを身近にしていながらも、その神のことばの恵みに与って生きているキリスト者が少ないことです。神を信じていても相変わらず人を妬みながら生きている、人を信用せずに、攻撃的な目を向け、人を苦々しく思いながら生きている人は少なくありません。しかし、神の恵みを知りながら、そのような人生を生きることは辛いことです。また人を攻撃することはなくても、自分の足りなさを責めるだけの人生を生きている人も少なくありません。それも辛いことです。しかし、これが救われた罪人の現実です。というのも人には、神のみことばに反応しにくい、罪の性質の深さがあるからです。まずは、自分の現実を正しく受け止めることです。神のことばを語りながら、自分自身に矛盾を許している現実に気づかされることです。それが、いい人を演じているだけのキリスト者から解放される第一歩です。そして、不完全で救いがたい罪人である自分のために、こう祈ることから始めることです。12節「どうか隠れた罪から私を解き放ってください。あなたのしもべを傲慢から守ってください。それらが私を支配しないようにしてください」神の前に遜って、ただ主の御力が自分の人生に表されるように祈る、それがキリスト者と言われる人の在り方です。そして、他人に対しては、自分と同じ罪人、救いの完成を必要とする同病者である、といういたわりの心を持つことです。罪から完全に解放されている人などいません。あの人より、私はキリスト者として立派に生きているなどと考えることも傲慢です。人との比較ではなく、愚か者の自分に示される神の愛を日々深く味わい知る人生を生きていく、そして他人には自分を愛するごとくいたわり優しくし、祈っていく、そこにキリスト者の生き方の真実があります。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Psalm 19: My Rock, My Redeemer
1. knowing God through nature
The background of Psalm 19 is not well understood. Its content is universal, and it teaches us the importance of thinking about God in the midst of nature, thinking about the smallness of man, and thinking about the blessings that exist for sinners who have been forgiven by God.
It is said that there are two main ways to know God. One is through God’s creation, or nature. The other is through the Word of God, the Bible. Nature itself is God’s masterpiece, a testimony to His glory. The sky, the mountains, and the sea are silent testimonies of God’s presence, day and night (vv. 2-4). They often look divine, but they are not God. They testify to the existence of the God who made them.
For example, even in those days, there was a belief in worshipping the sun as a god. But the sun was also created by God. The sun simply struts and shines divinely in its heavenly orbit in a God-given order (v. 5). When we look at nature, no matter how much they may amaze and irreverence the human heart, nature is no substitute for God. It is to God, the Creator of all creation, that we must look. The apostle Paul is also quoted as saying, “The sound of his voice went out to the whole earth, and his word to the ends of the earth” (Romans 10:18).
Knowing God through the Bible
Second, we know God through the Bible (v. 7~). God’s ordinances are infallible, protecting us, making us wise, and giving us joy and light. The Bible does not just talk about God. It is the Word of God, reviving the soul and pouring life into the thirsty heart. As Jesus said, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me. Jesus also said, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scriptures have said, rivers of living water will flow from the depths of his heart. (John 7:37,38) Anyone who reads the Bible should actually taste the blessing of these words. The Bible is His “instruction,” “testimony,” “commandment,” “exhortation,” and “judgment” that “revives” and “makes wise” our “souls,” “delights the heart,” “brightens the eyes of men,” and is “adoring” and “sweet,” that is, it affects our minds. The Word of God is perfect, sure, righteous, holy, and everlasting. The apostle John quotes these words in Revelation 19:2: “The judgments of God are true and righteous. It is only by remembering the truth of God’s Word, which is sure and brings life and judgment, that we can be confident of the coming of the new heaven and the new earth in the future.
3. a life of drawing near to God
The problem is that there are few Christians who live by the grace of God’s Word, even though they have such a wonderful Word of God close at hand. There are many people who believe in God but still live with envy toward others, who do not trust others, who look at others aggressively, and who live with bitterness toward others. However, knowing God’s grace, it is hard to live such a life. There are also many people who live their lives not attacking others, but only blaming themselves for their own shortcomings. That too is painful. But this is the reality of the saved sinner. This is because people have a deep sin nature that makes it difficult for them to respond to God’s Word. First of all, we must accept our reality correctly. We must be made aware of the reality that we allow ourselves to contradict ourselves while speaking the Word of God. That is the first step in being freed from being a Christian who is only playing the good guy. And to begin by praying this for ourselves as imperfect and irredeemable sinners: verse 12, “Please release me from my hidden sins. Protect your servant from arrogance. In reverence before God, praying only for the Lord’s power to be manifested in your life, is the way a Christian is supposed to be. And to have a heart of compassion toward others as sinners just like ourselves, people who are sick with the same disease and in need of the perfection of salvation. No one is completely free from sin. It is also arrogant to think that I am living a better life as a Christian than that other person. The truth of the Christian life is not to compare oneself with others, but to live a life in which one can deeply savor and know the love of God shown to one’s foolish self, and to be kind and gentle to others as one would love oneself. I pray that today will be another good day.
