1．メシヤ預言、しもべの歌
42章は一般に「しもべの歌」と呼ばれています。実際には、その最初の１-９節が、「しもべの歌」と呼ばれている箇所になります。それは、41章で登場した「しもべ」の働きを語っています。しもべは、神が選んだ器であり、優しく配慮のある、忍耐強い働きによって、力ではない、正義に基づいた統治を行う、と言います（3節）。いったい、誰のことを言っているのでしょうか？これまでの旧約聖書の流れで考えると、それは、バビロンを滅ぼしたクロス王ではないか、と思わされるところもありますが、そうではありません。しもべは、神によって見守られ、国々の光となり、諸国に救いをもたらすとあります（6節）。また、しもべは、人間がまだ経験もせず予測もしない神の栄光を現す働きをすると言います（9節）。となれば、この箇所は、新約聖書において、使徒マタイが自身の福音書に引用して、解説しているとおり（マタイ12:15-21）、霊的な救い主であるイエスについて語っているのだ、と考えるのが妥当でしょう。
神はまさにイエスを「しもべ」として選んだのであり、イエスは神によって力を与えられ、その十字架の使命を果たしました。彼こそが弱い者、倒れている者を神の力によって立たせ、神の正義があることを人々に明らかにしました。
ですから「新しい歌を主に歌え」（10節）となります。神によってたてられた「しもべ」が、私たちの人生に新しい事をしてくださる（9節）。喜び歌えというわけです。イエスは、私たちの歩みを、これまでの流れとは違う方向へと導かれるお方です。私たちが知らない道、思いつきもしない道を進ませます（16節）。ですから、イエスに期待する者は、もはや投げやりに人生を生きることはないのです。ただイエスが与えるこのチャンスは、相当の覚悟を要されることであるかもしれませんが、それは、逃してはならないものです。
2．嘆きの歌
18節からは、一転して、心のかたくななイスラエルに対する嘆きの歌となります。「あなたは多くを見ながら、心を留めない。耳が聞いているのに、聞こうとしない」（20節）。人には、何事にも無感動になり、積極的に物事を受け止められないことがあるものでしょう。あるいは、どんなに素晴らしいと聞かされても、もはや期待しない、ということもあるものです。人の現実の一側面です。人は変わりたいと願いながら、覚悟を決められない。そして、いつまでも自分の惨めな状況に不平不満を並べるだけで、無駄に時を過ごしてしまうこともあります。まさに「かすめ奪われ略奪された民、彼らはみな穴の中に陥れられ、助け出す者はなく」（22節）とあるように、希望のない捕囚の民に成り下がってしまうことがあるのです。
しかし神は、常に光を与えようとされるお方です。神は新しい恵みを注ごうとされるお方です。情けない人生だと思うところがあるなら、もはやその歩みに終止符を打ち、また情けない自分の現実を受け入れ、そのような私たちをも立たせ、助け、引き上げてくださるしもべがいることを覚えたい、そして仰ぎたいところです。しもべは既に、この世に来ておられるのです。イエスに対する信仰を明確にしましょう。人の人生が変わるのは、この方を信じることにおいて他にはないからです。では今日も良き一日となるように祈ります。

1. Messianic prophecy, servant song
Chapter 42 is commonly referred to as the “Song of the Servant. In fact, the first 1-9 verses of the chapter are called the “Song of the Servant. It speaks of the ministry of the “servant” who appeared in chapter 41. It says that the servant is God’s chosen vessel who, by his gentle, caring, and patient work, governs not by force but by justice (v. 3). Who in the world is he talking about? Some Old Testament readers might think that it is King Cyrus who destroyed Babylon, but this is not the case. The servant will be watched over by God and will be a light to the nations, bringing salvation to them (v. 6). It also says that the servant will work to reveal the glory of God, which man has not yet experienced or predicted (v. 9). It is reasonable to assume, then, that this passage is speaking of Jesus, the spiritual Savior of the New Testament, as the apostle Matthew quotes and explains in his Gospel (Matthew 12:15-21).
God chose Jesus as His very “servant,” and Jesus was empowered by God to fulfill the mission of His cross. He is the one who made the weak and fallen stand by God’s power and revealed to the people that there is divine justice.
Thus, “Sing to the Lord a new song” (v. 10). The “servants” established by God do new things in our lives (v. 9). We are to rejoice and sing. Jesus is the one who leads our steps in a different direction than they have gone before. He sets us on paths we do not know and cannot conceive of (v. 16). Therefore, those who look to Jesus no longer live their lives in a throwaway way. It is just that this opportunity that Jesus gives may require a great deal of commitment, but it is one that should not be missed.
2. Aa song of lamentation
Beginning in verse 18, the song turns around and becomes a lament for Israel, whose hearts are hardened. You see much, but you do not take heed. Your ears hear, but you do not listen” (v. 20). There are times when we become unimpressed by everything and fail to take things positively. Or they may no longer have expectations, no matter how wonderful they are told. This is one aspect of human reality. People wish to change, but they are not ready. And they may waste time just complaining about their miserable situation forever. Exactly as it says, “A people who have been grazed and plundered, they have all been plunged into the pit, and there is no one to rescue them” (v. 22), they can become a captive people with no hope.
But God is the one who always seeks to give light. God is the one who wants to pour out new grace. If we feel that our lives are miserable, we should put an end to it, accept our miserable reality, and remember and look up to the presence of the Servant who will stand us up, help us, and lift us up. The Servant has already come into the world. Let us make our faith in Jesus clear. Nothing else can change a person’s life but faith in Him. I pray that today will be another good day.
