1．第五の幻、神の助けによる神殿の完成
第五の幻が語られます。ゼカリヤは、全体が金でできている一つの燭台を見ています。どうも、この燭台、その仕組みがどうなっているのか、よくわかりません。翻訳の問題というよりは、原文そのものがわかりにくいのです。ただ言いたいことは、目の前に金の燭台があって、その燭台の灯は、その直ぐ傍にある二本のオリーブの木から直接燃料が注がれて（12節）、燃え続けていることです。一々給油する必要がない、半永久的に燃え続ける燭台が描かれています。
ゼカリヤは、この幻が何を意味するのかを御使いに尋ねました（4節）。その答えは、まず、神殿の完成に神の助けがあることです。イスラエルの人々は神殿再建工事に着手しましたが、その完成は危ぶまれていました。6節、「権力」は集団の組織的な力、「能力」は個人的な力量を意味します。つまりゼルバベルとその神殿再建の協力者たちには、人間的に頼む組織的な権力も個人的な能力もありませんでした。ソロモンが神殿を建設した時とは、事情が大きく異なっていたのです。ソロモンの時には、選りすぐりの人材が近隣諸国から集められましたが、今回はそうではなかったのです。しかし、どれほど劣悪な条件にあろうとも、永久に燃えるオリーブの木に象徴される、聖霊の油注ぎ、つまり神の助けによって、ゼルバベルの働きは達せられる、と神は保証するわけです。7節「恵みあれ。これに恵みあれ」は一種の掛け声です。つまり、最後の積石が所定の位置に据えられて工事が完了し、竣工式が行われるその時までに、神はこれを助けてくださるのです。大切なのは、この神の助けを信頼して私たちがやり抜くかどうかです。
2．オリーブの二本の枝
またみ使いは、12節「オリーブの二本の枝」の意味を解き明かします。それは、二人の油注がれた者、つまり大祭司ヨシュアと総督ゼルバベルのことである、と。彼らは神によって立てられた神のしもべでした。神の祝福と神の励ましのことばを語り伝え、イスラエルに新しい希望をもたらす神の器である、と言うのです。
ただこの4章までのメッセージには、当時の読者のみならず、現代の私たちにも語られているメシヤ預言的な意味もあります。この預言は、BC519年の神殿の再建について語っているものですが、それ以上のことを語り掛けており、その本質的な部分は今なお適用されるものです。たとえば、若枝（3:8）、石（3:9）、かしら石（4:7）は、それぞれ象徴的なことばです。祭司職と王権を兼ね備えた一人のメシヤを指しています。
確かに今日、私たちは、神殿ならぬ教会を建て上げそれを完成させる事業を担っています。それは、ソロモン時代のように、多くの人々が後押ししてくれるような働きではありません。組織的な力も、個人的な能力も乏しい中で、完成も危ぶまれるような働きであるかもしれません。しかし、それは、祭司職と王権が一つに統合されたイエスの助けによって達せられていくのです。イエスの弟子たちも、お金も、会堂も、何もない中で、ただ聖霊の助けによって、宣教の働きを担っていったこと、そして今日の私たちの働きがあることを覚えたいものです。何がなくても心配はいりません。教会の完成は、主の業に他ならないのです。主の救いを、自然に隣人に証することから始めましょう。では今日も良き一日となるように祈ります。

Zechariah 4: Completion by the Power of God
1. the fifth vision, the completion of the temple with God’s help
The fifth vision is told. Zechariah sees a candlestick made entirely of gold. I am not sure how this candlestick works. It is not so much a translation problem, but rather the original text itself is difficult to understand. The point I am trying to make is that there is a golden candlestick in front of us, and the lamp of the candlestick is fueled directly from two olive trees right next to it (verse 12), and it keeps burning. It is a semi-permanent lamp that does not need to be refueled every now and then.
Zechariah asked the angel what this vision meant (v. 4). The answer is, first of all, God’s help in the completion of the temple. The Israelites had begun work on rebuilding the temple, but its completion was in jeopardy. v. 6, “power” refers to the organized strength of a group, and “ability” refers to personal competence. In other words, Zerubbabel and his Temple rebuilding collaborators had neither the organizational power nor the personal ability to do what they humanly asked. The situation was very different from when Solomon built the Temple. At Solomon’s time, the best people were gathered from neighboring countries; this time, they were not. But God assures Zerubbabel that no matter how poor the conditions, the work of Zerubbabel will be accomplished through the anointing of the Holy Spirit, symbolized by the ever-burning olive tree, or God’s help. is a kind of shout. God’s help will be there by the time the final stone is set in place, the work is completed, and the completion ceremony is held. The important thing is whether or not we trust God’s help and carry through.
2. the two branches of the olive tree
The angel also clarifies the meaning of the “two olive branches” in verse 12. It refers to the two anointed ones: Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the governor. They were God’s servants established by God. They were God’s vessels to bring new hope to Israel by preaching God’s blessings and God’s words of encouragement, he says.
But there is also a Messianic prophetic meaning to this message up to chapter 4, which is spoken not only to the readers of that time, but also to us today. Although this prophecy speaks of the rebuilding of the temple in 519 BC, it speaks of much more than that, and its essential parts still apply today. For example, the young branch (3:8), the stone (3:9), and the capstone (4:7) are each symbolic words. They refer to a single Messiah who combines priesthood and kingship.
Indeed, today we are in the business of building up the Church, not the temple, and bringing it to completion. It is not the kind of work that is encouraged by many people, as it was in Solomon’s day. It is a work whose completion may be in jeopardy because of a lack of organizational strength and personal ability. But it will be accomplished with the help of Jesus, whose priesthood and kingship are united in one. We should remember that Jesus’ disciples also carried out missionary work with the help of the Holy Spirit, even though they had no money, no church building, and nothing, and that is how we are doing our work today. We do not need to worry even if we have nothing. The completion of the church is nothing but the Lord’s work. Let us begin by witnessing the salvation of the Lord to our neighbors in a natural way.
