1．告発者サタンの再チャレンジ（2:1-6）
聖書はサタンの働きについて多くのことを語っているます。もともとサタンは、神に造られたもので、堕落した天使であると言われます（イザヤ14:12-15）。ですからサタンは、悪を企み（2コリント11:3）、人を虜にし（2テモテ2:26）、神から遠ざけようとします。ヨブがそうであったように、人の体に危害を加え、物を奪い、罪を犯させます（マタイ4:1）。またこの世を支配しようとし、神に代ろうとします（2コリント4:4）。神と神の子らに敵対し（エペソ6:10-13）、迫害を巻き起こします（黙示2:10）。サタンが最も喜ぶのは、神を攻撃し、告発することば、つまり人が神をのろって自分の側に立つことなのです。ここでは、サタンは、ヨブの家庭を破壊し、ヨブが神をのろうことを期待しました。しかし、そうはなりませんでした。
サタンは、人間より長く生きている存在ですから、人間に勝る知恵と力を持っていますが、神と違い全能ではありません。すべてを神のように予測し、知っているというわけでもありません。サタンは鎖付の自由を持つと言われるところです。
さて、再び場面が天上に転換します。サタンは自分の挑戦の結果に満足できず、再び、神のもとに戻りました。そして、人は自分の身に危機が及ばない限り、本性を表さないものだ、と訴えるのです。神は再び、ヨブを試みに合わせることを許しました。それは神のヨブに対する信頼の深さを示しています。ヨブが罹った病気は、熱帯地域に多い、皮膚が象の皮のようになる「象皮病」だったのではないか、と考える学者もいますが、はっきりしたことは分かっていません。ただそれは、耐え難い状況の中に放置されていく恐るべき病でした。
2．敬虔な態度を貫き通すヨブ（2:7-13）
しかしそれでもヨブは、神に誠実な態度を貫き、罪を犯さないのです。むしろこのサタンの攻撃に閉口したのは、ヨブの周りの人々であり、ことにヨブの妻でした。彼女を悪妻と言う人は多いですが、そうではなく、彼女は夫が苦しんでいる姿にもはや耐えられなかったのでしょう。病者をケアする者に、理不尽な思いが突き上げてくることはあるものです。それによって病者の試練は一層深められることがあります。しかしそれでもヨブは、自分を見失うことなく、毅然と振る舞い、寄って立つべき所を示し、妻の心をいたわるのです。
3．三人の友の見舞い（2:11-13 ）
富豪でしかも義人のヨブが、突然惨事に見舞われ、十人の子を失い、挙句には本人も病魔に冒された。その出来事はたちまち周囲の噂になったのでしょう。ヨブの三人の友人たちが、ヨブを慰めようと、それぞれの地から見舞いにやってきました。テマン人エリファズ、シュアハ人ビルダデ、ナアマ人ツォファルです。彼らの出身地についてはあまりよくわかっていません。ともあれ、三人の友人は、ヨブの変わり果てた姿にヨブを見分けられなかったと言います。そしてヨブの傍らに立ち、七日七夜沈黙しました。慰めの言葉を失う事態に直面し、彼らはただ、友として不器用にその時を一緒に過ごすほかなかったのです。しかしそのような深い友情によって、四人は、表面的ではない深い心の内を語りはじめるのです。身内の密かな語り合いに読者は耳を傾けながら、霊的な成熟に欠かせない洞察を得るのです。結論を言ってしまえば、そのような悲しみのどん底から、神が私たちを立たせる方であることを深い思索の中で教えられていきます。神を疑い、のろいたくなる状況の中でも、ぶれない信仰の歩みを大事にすることを決心させられます。神の子として、神の支配の中にあることをいつでも思い起こし、人間としての尊厳を保ちつつ歩ませていただくことです。では、今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Job 2: Job’s Second Trial and Faith
1. re-challenge of Satan the Accuser (2:1-6)
The Bible has much to say about the work of Satan. Originally, Satan was created by God and is said to be a fallen angel (Isaiah 14:12-15). Therefore, Satan plots evil (2 Corinthians 11:3), takes men captive (2 Timothy 2:26), and tries to keep them away from God. He harms people’s bodies, takes things from them, and causes them to sin (Matthew 4:1), just as Job did. They also seek to rule the world and replace God (2 Corinthians 4:4). He opposes God and His children (Ephesians 6:10-13) and stirs up persecution (Revelation 2:10). Satan is most pleased with words that attack and accuse God, that is, when men take his side against him. Here, Satan destroyed Job’s household, expecting Job to curse God. But it did not happen.
Satan is a being that has lived longer than man, so he has wisdom and power over man, but unlike God, he is not omnipotent. He does not predict and know everything like God. Satan is said to have freedom with chains.
Now, the scene turns again to heaven. Satan, not satisfied with the outcome of his challenge, returns, once again, to God. He complains that people do not reveal their true nature unless they are in danger. Once again, God allowed Job to meet the challenge. This shows the depth of God’s trust in Job. Some scholars believe that Job’s illness may have been elephantiasis, a disease common in tropical regions that causes the skin to look like the skin of an elephant, but this is not known for certain. But it was a dreadful disease that left him in an unbearable situation.
2. Job, who remained pious (2:7-13)
But still, Job remains faithful to God and does not sin. Rather, it was the people around Job, especially Job’s wife, who were put off by this attack by Satan. Many would say she was an evil wife, but she was not; she could no longer bear to see her husband suffer. There are times when unreasonable thoughts can be thrust upon those who care for the sick. This can deepen the trials of the sick. But Job does not lose sight of himself, but acts resolutely, showing his wife where she should stand and caring for her heart.
3. the visitation of the three friends (2:11-13)
Job, a wealthy and righteous man, suddenly suffered a catastrophe, losing his ten children and even falling ill himself. The incident must have quickly become a rumor around him. Three of Job’s friends came to visit him from different places to comfort him. Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuacharite, and Zophar the Naamanite. Not much is known about where they came from. At any rate, the three friends say that they could not recognize Job because of his changed appearance. Then they stood by Job and were silent for seven days and seven nights. Faced with a situation that left them without words of comfort, they could do nothing but awkwardly spend the time together as friends. But through such deep friendship, the four of them begin to speak from their deepest, not superficial, hearts. As the reader listens to the secret talks of their relatives, he or she gains insights that are essential for spiritual maturity. In conclusion, we are taught in deep contemplation that God is the one who makes us stand up from the depths of such sorrow. We are made to resolve to cherish our unwavering walk of faith even in the midst of circumstances that make us doubt God and want to falter. As God’s children, we must always remember that we are under God’s control, and we must walk with dignity as human beings. I pray that today will be another good day.
