1．望みのない短いいのち（7:1-10）
エリファズに対するヨブの応答が続きます。しかし実際には、ヨブはもはやエリファズではなく、神に向かって語り始めています。そこにはヨブの混迷した労働観、神観、人生観、そして具体的な病の苦しみが、切々と訴えられています。大切なのは、1-2節と3-6節の対比を理解することでしょう。労働であれば、それが苦役であれ支払いがあるからまだましだ。しかし自分の苦しみに報いすらない。ただ一進一退の病に耐えながら、あっちに寝返り、こっちに寝返り、辛く長い夜を過ごし、重ねていくだけの人生。それは、機織りの杼が素早くくぐる様に似ていて、一瞬でもある。そして、機織りのように美しい布が織りなされることもない。神よ、あなたは人を顧みると言われるが、人生のタイムリミットは刻々と近づいてくる（8節）。一旦死の門をくぐったなら、私たちは、もうおしまいだ（10節）。雲が消え去り、二度と同じ雲が現れないように、自分の家族も、その人を再び見ることはないだろう、と言うわけです。
そういえば、私自身30代に、わずか2年間でしたが、突然重い皮膚炎に冒され、思うようにならない時を過ごしたことがあります。皮膚が赤らみ、はげ落ち、薄くなって、夏場は目の周りの皮膚に汗がしみる。髪の毛も、剥がれ落ちた皮膚で粉を吹き、おまけに風邪を拗らせ、長引き、まるで屍のように感じられる重たい体を引きずって、全ての時の動きから取り残されて行くように感じさせられたことがありました。すべての思いは、否定的になり、何の実りも得られず、ただ歳を重ねていくように思えた時がありました。
2．わたしになど、関心は向けないで欲しい（7:11-21）
ともあれヨブは、エリファズのことばを受けて神に訴えるのです。そうであれば神よ、私はあなたに、今の苦悩を切々と語ることも許されるでしょう、と（11節）。そして言います。あなたはひどいよ、私は海のような大きな器でも、竜のような強い怪物でもない。本当にこんなちっぽけな存在の一挙手一投足に一々目を付けられるとは、どういう理由なのか（12節）。一瞬たりとも、気持ちが休まらない。たとえ眠りに落ちたとしても、悪夢で飛び起きるのだ（14節）。もう逝かせて欲しい（16節）。そもそも、どうして神は、人間に、関心を向けるのか。朝ごとに、人間の行動をチェックされるとは（18節）。神のあら捜しの目から逃れる一瞬の時すら与えられない（19節）。実際私が罪の性質を持っているとしても、あなたの戒めを犯しはしないか、と睨みを利かせているあなたの前で何ができるというのか。どうして私を標的にし、重い荷を負わせようとするのか（20節）。私の小さな罪にいちいち気分を害して、罪を責め立てるあなたが、そのバカバカしさに気づいて、私を探し出そうとしても、もう私はいないだろう。何もかも終わっているのだ（21節）。
読めば読むほどに、自分のことばのように思わされるものがあると感じる人は少なくないでしょう。つまり、それらは、私たちも人生のどこかで目に見えない神に向かって発してきたものです。もちろん、ここで語られているヨブの神観はいささか混迷しています。神はヨブが語っているようなお方ではありません。それはこの書の後で、明らかになります。しかしながら、大切なことは、聖書は、私たちがそのように神に訴えることを許していることです。祈りは、虚しいつぶやきなどではなく、神に切々と語る機会でもあるのです。人にではなく、神に向かって心の思いの全てを語り、神にこそ解を得ることができるのです。では今日もよき1日となるように祈ります。

Job 7: Job Talks to God
1. short life without hope (7:1-10)
Job’s response to Eliphaz continues. In fact, however, Job is no longer speaking to Eliphaz, but to God. There is an impassioned plea for Job’s confused view of labor, God, and life, as well as the suffering of his specific illness. What is important is to understand the contrast between verses 1-2 and 3-6. If it is labor, it is still better because it pays, even if it is hard work. But there is not even a reward for one’s suffering. It is just a life of enduring one illness after another, turning this way and that way, spending long, painful nights, and piling them on top of each other. It is like the quick passing of a shuttle in weaving, and it is also a moment in time. And like the shuttle of a loom, no beautiful cloth is woven. O God, you are said to look back on people, but the time limit of life is getting closer every moment (v. 8). Once we have passed through the gates of death, we are done for (v. 10). Just as a cloud disappears and the same cloud never appears again, so too, you say, your own family will never see that person again.
I remember when I was in my thirties, I suddenly developed a severe dermatitis that lasted only two years and was not at all what I expected. My skin became red, flaky, and thin, and in the summer, sweat stung the skin around my eyes. My hair was powdered with flaking skin, and on top of that, I had a lingering cold that made me feel like a corpse, dragging my heavy body behind me, feeling left out of all the movements of time. There were times when all my thoughts were negative, fruitless, and I felt like I was just growing old.
2. don’t pay any attention to me (7:11-21)
Anyway, Job appeals to God in response to Eliphaz’s words. If so, God, I will even allow you to tell me earnestly of my present affliction (v. 11). Then he says. You are terrible, I am not a vessel as great as the sea, nor a monster as strong as a dragon. What reason do you have that you can really be watched every single step of such a tiny being (v. 12)? Not even for a moment can I rest my mind. Even if I fall asleep, I will be awakened by nightmares (v. 14). I want him to let me go (v. 16). Why does God pay so much attention to human beings in the first place? How is it that God checks our behavior every morning (v. 18)? I am not even given a moment to escape God’s searching eyes (v. 19). Even if I do in fact have a sin nature, what can I do before you, who are glaring at me to see if I violate your commandments? Why do you target me and try to make me carry a heavy burden (v. 20)? Even if you, who are offended by every little sin of mine and accuse me of sin, realize the ridiculousness of it all and try to find me, I will no longer be there. Everything is over (v. 21).
Many of us feel that the more we read, the more some of these words seem like our own words. In other words, they are things that we too have uttered to the invisible God at some point in our lives. Of course, Job’s view of God as spoken here is somewhat confused. God is not who Job says He is. That will become clear later in this book. What is important, however, is that the Bible allows us to appeal to God in that way. Prayer is not a vain murmur, etc., but an opportunity to speak earnestly to God. We speak all of our heart’s thoughts to God, not to others, and only to God can we obtain a solution. I pray that today will be another good day.
