16章 アサの変心とハナニの献身
1．聖書の矛盾表記
アサの治世第36年に、イスラエルの王バシャがユダに攻めのぼったとあります。しかし、これはありえないことです。というのも、バシャは、アサの治世の第26年には既に死んでいるからです（1列王15:33，16:8）。ただ、これが歴史的事実であったことは、1列王記の著者も認めています（15:16-23）。つまり、年代の記録に間違いがあるわけですが、それが元々著者の手によるものなのか、写本家によって書き写された時に生じたものなのか、未だによくわかっていません。聖書を誤りなき神のことばとする福音的な立場では、しばしば、これを間違いとして取り上げること自体が、不毛かつ痛ましい論争を引き起こすことがあります。しかし、実際の記録の矛盾について、気になる人がいるのも事実で、私は、それはそれで探究する努力があってよいのではないか、と思います。ただ、それらは、聖書の中心的なメッセージ歪め、信頼性を失わせるほど大きな問題ではないことも事実で、わからないものはわからないままに受け止めていくことも大切です。
2．アサ王の変心
さて16章で注目されるのは、アサ王の変心です。かつて彼は、「主よ、力の強い者を助けるのも、力のない者を助けるのも、あなたには変わりはありません」（14:11）と素晴らしい信仰を表明しています。しかし晩年、イスラエル北王国の侵攻に際しては、その危機を切り抜けるため、神ではないアラムの国に助けを求めているのです。そこで予見者ハナニが遣わされ、なぜかつてのように神に拠り頼まなかったのか、もし拠り頼めば、かつてと同じように神の業を見ただろう（8節）と警告されています。するとアサ王は、ハナニのことばに怒りを発し、彼の足に足かせをかけ、さらには、ハナニに同調する者を苦しめるのです。
著者は、アサ王がなぜ心変わりしたのか、その理由を明らかにしていません。しかし、信仰の熱心さを持続する難しさは、誰にでもよく理解されるところでしょう。たとえ長く積み重ねられてきたとしても、信仰の歩みは一夜にして崩れ去ることがあるものです。大洪水の後に失敗したノア（創世記9:20-23）、繰り返し同じ間違いをしたアブラハム（創世記12:10）、怒りをコントロールできず失敗したモーセ（民数記20）、とたくさんの例があります。まさに「立っていると思う者は、倒れないようにしなさい」（1コリント10:12）とあるとおりです。
3．信仰の熱心さを保つ
大切なのは、ハナニが言うように、「主はその御目をもって全地を隅々まで見渡し、その心がご自分と全く一つになっている人々に御力を現わしてくださるのです」（9節）という事実です。「見渡し」は、決して見逃すまいとする、探るような目の動きです。となれば、私たちの側に神の目に留まるような信仰の熱心さがあるかどうかが問題でしょう。
歴代誌の著者が捕囚後の民に問いかけているのは、主を求めるのみならず、主を求め続けることです。霊に燃え主に仕え続けることです。確かに、レビ人は、町の再建途中であるというのに、生活苦のためにエルサレムから立ち去って、農地を求めてその仕事を捨てている状況がありました。ネヘミヤ記は、そのあたりの事情を描き、神の奉仕へと呼び戻す声掛けがあったことを記録しています（ネヘミヤ12、13章）。彼らは、主への再献身を促されているのです。人は、委ねられたものを最後まで完成させる、そのような熱心さを持ち続けることが大切です。では今日もよき一日となるように祈ります。

Chapter 16 Asa’s change of heart and Hanani’s devotion
1. Biblical Contradictions
In the 36th year of Asa’s reign, Basha, king of Israel, ascended Judah. But this is impossible. For Baasha was already dead in the 26th year of Asa’s reign (1 Kings 15:33, 16:8). However, the author of 1 Kings admits that this was a historical fact (15:16-23). In other words, there is an error in the chronological record, but it is still not clear whether the error was originally made by the author or when it was copied by a copyist. In the evangelical stance of the Bible as the inerrant Word of God, often the very act of erroneousness raises a barren and painful controversy. However, it is also true that some people are concerned about the discrepancies in the actual records, and I think that efforts to investigate them should be made. However, it is also true that they are not so big a problem as to distort the central message of the Bible or to lose its credibility.
2. King Asa’s change of heart
In Chapter 16, the focus is on King Asa’s change of heart. He once expressed great faith, saying, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty” (14:11). However, in his later years, when the Northern Kingdom of Israel invades, he seeks help from the non-God nation of Aram to survive the crisis. Hanani, the seer, was sent to warn them why they did not rely on God as before, and if they did, they would see the works of God as they did before (verse 8). King Asa, angry at Hanani’s words, puts fetters on his feet and tortures those who sympathize with Hanani.
Never before in the history of Judah has an Israeli seer been treated so unfairly. This is the beginning of the Seer Passion. The author does not explain why King Asa had a change of heart. However, we all know how difficult it is to maintain the fervor of faith. A walk of faith, even if it has been built up over a long period of time, can crumble overnight. Noah failing after the Flood (Genesis 9:20-23), Abraham making the same mistake over and over again (Genesis 12:10), Moses failing to control his anger (Numbers 20), and many more. Just as it says, “If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!” (1 Corinthians 10:12).
3. Keep Your Faith Zealous
The point is, as Hanani says, “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”（Ver. 9). “The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth“ is a probing eye movement that never misses. The question, then, is whether we have the zeal of faith on our part to catch the eye of God.
What the Chronicles author asks the post-exilic people is not only to seek the Lord, but to continue to seek the Lord. Burning in spirit and continuing to serve the Lord. Indeed, even though the city was in the process of being rebuilt, there was a situation in which the Levites left Jerusalem because of the hardships of living and abandoned their jobs in search of farmland. The book of Nehemiah describes the situation and records that there was a call to God’s service (Nehemiah 12, 13). They are encouraged to rededicate themselves to the Lord. It is important for people to continue to have such enthusiasm to complete what has been entrusted to them. I hope you have a good day today.
